If you had the resources to powder coat...

Let's say hypothetically that you had all of the tools necessary to powder coat some parts yourself. The oven is big enough to fit the wheels (maybe even the sub frame) but that's about as big as you could go. What would you powder coat?

Lucky me, I'll have these tools in about a month. I'm just looking for some ideas to get the creative juices flowing. I'll be doing the rims for sure because mine are scratched up a bit. Not sure if I should go flat black, high gloss black, or maybe a black chrome. I'm planning on repairing and painting the bike too (track plastics). I want to do something interesting, but my artistic side is lacking. I'll be looking through the pictures section of the forum, some past BOTM threads, etc. But again I'm curious to see what you all come up with.

I'll have vortex rearsets (black) so that's not something I need to worry about. I do, however, have the stock rearsets so those might get powder coated black for an easier sale. I don't want to powder coat things just for the sake of powdercoating, however. I want to keep a clean and professional look.

So again, what would you do?

Anything metal I could get off the bike. Rims, rear sets, and sub frames are the most common. The best looking part I've seen is the frame though. Make sure anything you do doesn't have any clearance issues with parts (ie, don't do something like your clip ons or entire fork assembly) and be careful not to get any of the coating near the bearings of your rims. Good luck.

What colors were the frames that you saw powder coated? I've never seen a frame besides black or silver (unless someone sloppily rattle canned it)

Depends my graffiti is already almost all black..

I also have the resources and plan on spraying small parts like the pegs and rear wheel I have. Has some paint chips in it.

I think choosing a color scheme first would help you decide on what to powder coat. Like I want to do a red/black/gold scheme so I plan to repaint my plastics red, plastidip everything else black and some gold in areas like the rearset, passenger peg, etc.

I do powder coating for a living and still haven't done anything of my own lol. I just can't decide what I want to do with my bike. I was at one time planning on doing the rear sets and passenger pegs, rear swing arm, wheels, and the engine covers maybe the valve cover too. I think that was all I wanted to powder coat the rest of what I wanted to do was going to just be upgraded or replaced. I bought it with scratches all over it and was planning on redoing everything this winter but now im still riding it with snow on the ground and im to involved in other stuff to worry about it now.

Pm sent, that picture just gave me an idea...maybe I'll powder coat the clutch cover a gloss black for a subtle difference...again it depends on the final paint scheme

Hmmm how about black powder coated bolts heads? I'm not sure how thick the powder coat will be/ if it will affect the socket fitting the bolt. But it's something to toy with...that's the fun of it ;)

I did the bolts for my stock restarts and passenger pegs. Its tighter for the socket/allen wrench but as long as you are careful you shouldn't mess up the finish too bad

Yeah its pretty simple. Just try to keep the powder off the threads and you should be good. I'm going to try and do my engine covers this winter, but I have to find a big enough toaster oven to fit them

I have a complete powder coating station setup in my garage for under $300.... I can do anything up to 20" wheels.

I powered the wheels 2 tone with black in the center and blue around the "rim", swing arm, all the rear suspension parts, engine covers, chain adjusters, rear sets pegs. going to do my subframe this winter and my triple trees.

Motor parts can be prepped and painted with high temp paint and look great. Main reason being nothing rubs up against them. Rearsets and other crap like that should be anodized or not painted at all IMO. I will admit, tripage's blue is an awesome color though!
