Over 50?

I'm just enjoying my coffee this morning and wondering how may other CBR owners out there are over 50. I'm six months past my 50th birthday riding an 06 600rr and dating a gentlemen who is 61 and rides a GSXR1000. We ride all the time and love the looks on the faces of the officers when they pull us over and we pull our helmets off. I can only imagine the stories that are told back at the precinct!!

Anyway, if you're riding a CBR or other sportbike and you're over 50, post a reply here.

Why is it most people over 50 I see on bikes aren't wearing helmets?

Thoughts? (Serious)

I would assume its because when most of them started riding helmet laws weren't so prevalent. I've also talked to some older riders who refuse to wear helmets because when they started riding the myth of neck injuries as a result of wearing helmets was still commonly accepted.

Went with a group ride from my local forum and when I met up it was all grey haired older dudes in mid 50's and older. I thought to myself this can go either way, slow and steady or a bat outahell. Well it was the later and holy crap can these guys ride, they weren't braking speed records or anything but flawless cornering made them look and ride fast. One of the best rides iv been on and will be joining with them next season.

Older riders tend to obey speed limits in Straightaways and pick up the speed a notch or ten in corners it's all about enjoying the ride not ending up with a ticket or in Jail

Same here.... Actually nice to see that "older" people ride cbr's. Be honest with you, I don't even like the age group that I'm in that ride bikes. All these guys in their 20s ride around like they're the sh1t all the time and it's annoying. My friend is 20 and he's been riding for more than a year and he says he wants a 1000. Anyone can ride a liter bike. As far as riding a liter bike like how it was meant to be ridden, he's nowhere near that.

I think that's more of a culture thing. Most (at least here) older riders choose cruisers where ideas on safety equipment is opposite that of the sport bike community. All of the older people I know/have seen on sport bikes wear gear, and it's usually really nice gear.

I have a friend that is 50 and rides a ZX14. He wears full gear. There are a few guys in our group that are almost 50, and they wear full gear. One thing I have noted, most of the gear is top end protective gear and it could very well be the knowledge that the body heals a lot slower when you are older.

Love riding! Nothing better than rolling down some country road.

this thread reminds me of my steps dads yamaha 1000. he got it from his buddy cheap because he looped it doing a wheelie in a parking lot.. the guy was in his 50's when he did that lol

50 isn't 80. I do high impact workouts, and do crazy **** like downhill MTB and suffer my bumps and bruises and haven't had any problems yet.
