Stolen 2007 white cbr600rr Minneapolis, MN area ( Recovered but Totaled)

As much as it pains me to write this, the police said it would be a good idea...

My motorcycle was stolen on Friday, August 29th at 5:35 in the morning. It was taken out of the underground parking garage at Louisiana Oaks in St. Louis Park, Minnesota where I live. Someone got in and ripped off the lockset/ignition and hot-wired it and drove off. The only surveillance footage the apartment complex has is of the person (guessing male by the height on the bike) driving off on the bike through the garage door. They were wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood up, it had white writing across the back of the sweatshirt in 2 words but the camera wasn't clear enough to make out what it said. They were also wearing jeans and tennis shoes and had a dark color bag over their right shoulder. Now, about the bike...

It's a 2007 Honda CBR 600RR. It had just over 20,000 miles on it and was mostly white in color.

VIN is "JH2PC40037M011016"
LICENSE PLATE "53338MG".

I listed a full modification list below, but some of the most noticeable differences/mods are as follows:
- custom paint job (it's not the stock 07 pearl white paint scheme and is a one of a kind scheme)
- custom headlights (had audi LEDs with a halo around the HID projector, if the headlights are off, the inner projector glows red)
- rear subframe and heat sheild were painted black as well as the passenger pegs powder coated black
- rear passenger pegs had LEDs in them (2 strips of 10 facing the rear with running/break as the inside strip and the turn indicator amber were the outside strip as well as 5 facing the side that were also turn indicator and amber
- Akrapovic exhaust with a TST license plate mount putting the license plate up under the exhaust
- black Sato rearsets with a rear brake reservoir delete mounting the rear brake reservoir right behind the right rear set

If you see this bike or have any information on it, please call the St. Louis Park Police department in Minnesota immediately.

Here is the full mod list:
- Akrapovic Exhaust
- Vortex frame sliders
- Proton flushmount blinkers
- Tripage Pro Intergrated Taillight
- Tripage passenger peg LED install and black powder coating
- Tripage Cruise control (throttle lock on right side)
- TST Industries License Plate mount and lights
- The2Wheels brake and clutch levers (black with red adjusters)
- Corbin Seat (black)
- Vortex front sprocket
- Vortex rear sprocket (black)
- DID 520 Chain (black
- Galfor front Brake Pads
- Galfor rear Brake Pads
- Galfor Steal Braided front brake lines (clear smoked coating with silver banjo)
- Galfor Steal Braided rear brake lines (clear smoked coating with silver banjo)
- Power Comander V
- Sato Rearsets
- Custom Headlights from KT (55w 6000k HID projector lights that had audi LEDs with a halo around the HID projector, if the headlights are off, the inner projector glows red)
- Pair Valve block off plates
- Rear reservoir delete with Brembo Rear Brake Reservoir mounted by the right rearset
- Renthal Dual Compound grips (grey)
- K&N Air Filter
- Cox Racing Radiator Guard (black)
- Puig Racing windscreen (dark smoked)
- Tech Spec C3 Tank grip pads (black)
- Probolt Fairing and windscreen kit (black)
- Tripage 3rd eye LED upgrade
- Superbike Custom Fairing Kit (mostly white with black stripe down the middle and some stickers deleted - see pictures)

The bike the day I got it:

After some work from tripage and some blacking out of some stuff:

A round of goodies to put on the bike:

Corbin seat added and my new helmet prior to the install of the rest of the parts from the previous pic:

And the install of some of the parts plus my favorite mod, my headlights:

pics continued...

Thanks everyone. Yes, it was insured and I'm covered from theft. It's more a of a sentimental thing than anything. Plus I was almost "DONE" with it in terms of mods I wanted to do...

In that case you should get together and set them up if there is still bike owners living in the complex just on case they return for more

How does a second bike get stolen from the same place in such short time? Especially him being your buddy. If my friends bike got stolen and I had no choice but to keep mine outside I would have lo jack or an alarm installed the next day. I would also do late night strolls through the complex looking for suspicious people. I say this because I've had things stolen.

That being said, I really hope you catch the bastards.

So I'm about 2 weeks late in posting this, however I've recently moved out of that appartment complex to a townhouse with my own garage and much better security...

The bike was recovered 3 weeks ago... Late on Thursday October 16th I got a phone call from the police department that my bike had been recovered in a high speed police chase. They clocked the bike going 100 miles per hour in a 45 and then pursued the suspect. 15 squad cars were involved and speeds reached upwards of 140 mph and then the suspect ditched the bike at low speeds and took off on foot. However, criminals are usually pretty stupid and this is no exception... He left his cell phone strapped onto the bike OPEN TO HIS FACEBOOK page! His shoes also came off while he was running and the cops took them as well and got DNA off of them and it matched the suspects FB identity. The guy is a known fellon with a rap sheet of burglery and assault and the investigator said he is well on his way back to fedral prision.

Now onto the bike... This guy had it for over a month and a half and he put almost 2,000 miles on the bike. He went through and did many things to it to try to make it his own, I'd put up pictures, but I'm having issues with my phone right now that the pics are on. He wired in 2 DC power outlets, obviously screwed up the ignition (you were able to start the bike with a screw driver and he just taped a key to the top of it to make it look like it was normal), he took nail polish or really cheap paint and panted all over the fairings adding his own designs, it was wrecked up a little bit from the low speed crash including cracked fairings on the left side and a big scrape on the Akra exhaust, he also srewed up the wiring to the headlights and the proton blinkers and many other things.

After all was said and done, there was almost $7000 in damage and that was without even starting it up (we couldn't at the time, the batery was dead) so the bike was totaled out and I got a check for $9,600 (NADA value, $3000 max in accessories/aftermarket parts and tax title and liscence stuff as well minus my $500 deductable). I chose not to keep the salvaged bike because with a theft recovery and him having it for almost 2000 miles, I had no idea what he did to the engine, brakes, chain or other things and it was a better deal to just take the full amount instead of the salvage plus the remaining. If it was a crash of my own accord and I just laid it down vs someone else screwing with it for over a month, I would have easily kept it and built it back up and kept it, however with the theft it was just not worth it. I also didn't have the space for it.

So to wrap everything up, I did get my bike back, however it was still totalled out and I got a good chunk of money from Progressive, there is a warrant out for this guys arrest and I moved out of the appartment complex and into a townhouse.

Now to see what's next in terms of "toys" for me...
Thinking maybe taking a summer off from bikes and getting a 2010-2012 Audi S4, or getting another 07/08 600rr, or a 2012 1000rr, or a different bike all together, who knows... I have the winter to think on it! Don't worry, I'll still be active on here though, how else would I waste my time?!?!

To be honest, it was more my fault about the insurance not paying out right after 30 days. They offered, but I guess I was still holding out hope that it would be found so I drug my feat a little on getting them the information and the full mod list including reciepts and pictures of everything. Literally the night before I had everything ready to send over the following morning (scanned reciepts, a formatted e-mail with links to parts and values, etc.) is when the the police called and told me that the bike had been recovered. It wasn't the insurance company's fault at all.

The headlights are the KT headlights you see all over the forum. I was one of the first to get them and my buddy who is very good with working on bikes did the install. It was one of my favorite mods both for how it looked but also because of the greatly improved vision at night.

Me too. I loved that bike and I guess I'm still upset that it got stolen. It was my first motorcycle and I was almost "done" in terms of modding it as just about everything was how I wanted it. However we all know that a bike is truly never "done" once the modding starts...

Being throwing around ideas of what to do with this summer and getting another bike...

I've pretty much just come to the realization that I'm getting another bike, but I'm not sure which one yet. I've been thinking about getting a 1000rr for a while, but I just don't need that sort of power on the street. And I always keep coming back to getting another 2007 or 2008 600rr and doing a remake of my first bike which I loved! I knew that bike, how it rode, felt, and it was a blast to ride. I've test driven a couple of different bikes at the end of the summer last year (2012 R6, 2013 R1, 2014 ZX-6R, 2012 1000rr, 2014 Duc baby pan) and I just keep wanting my bike back. Value, performance, quality... I just keep coming back to it.

I got almost $10k for my bike and I'm almost 90% sure I'm going to get another 07-08 600rr for around $5k then take another $3k and get most of the mods back and do almost a remake of my old bike, with a few tweaks made from learnings along the way.

Any thoughts, suggestions?

Glad to see you wanting to get back into another bike. Seems to me you're really comfortable on the 600rr so go with what you know, trust, and enjoy.

I have a question regarding your insurance with aftermarket parts and accessories. Did you happen to have all of your receipts from every purchase you made? I know I dont have every receipt so I'm just wondering if I would get a return on parts that don't have receipts. Just trying to plan ahead if this ever happened. Good luck with the bike shopping though. You had a nice bike for sure.

So the details behind my insurance and how it all went down...

I had progressive. They give you the value of the bike (I forget which site they do, but it was definitely fair) and then have a $3,000 max on aftermarket parts on the bike. If the bike is stolen and not recovered, they do ask for reciepts of everything or pictures of it on the bike. Well, fortunate enough for me, I had all of the reciepts and TONS of pictures on my computer of the bike in various stages showing everything. If the bike is recovered but still totalled (my case) they can actually see the parts on the bike and they take the value of those parts as if they were new the day I got them. So the guy just started looking up parts and values online (full retail) and then went from there.

They have a $3000 max, and I exceeded that by about $1000, so I lost a little bit of money in the long run, but I guess you could say "chalk that up to cost of ownership."

I will most likely be going back with Statefarm as their prices are a little less, and they don't have the $3000 max, they just cover everything on the bike as long as you have a reciept for it.

Something to keep in mind though, every insurance company is different, so for those who do a lot of modding, please ask your insurance company instead of learning the hard way like I did. It ended up working out OK, not perfect, for me, but I really can't complain too much.
