Yes I plan to install the heated grip kit I bought from Aerostitch. I ride in the canyons pretty much all year (SoCal) and I've ridden in mid 20's temps...never again without my heated vest or installing these.
So, while I doubt anyone here's done it (not bling enough, no ST'ing), I'd like to know where did you ground the heating elements themselves? Where on the frame did you find a convenient place to do it or was there another place to ground them? Any feedback on how/where to run the wires would be appreciated too?
The RR is already notorious for not even being able to charge the stock components. If those items have much of a draw off the battery, you may be in for some trouble.
if you take your "hidden" storage box under the right fairing out you might beable to use thoes brackets and rig something up maybe, then hide the wires under it and run it up to the clip on's that way. Iv never done heated grips but it may work just tossing in my 2 cents
mid 20's in so cal? we're talking southern california right? where does it get that cold around here? I dont even think angeles crest in the winter gets that cold.

Thats exactly where I'm talking about. Last winter, maybe november or december sometime I rode up Crest and barely made it to Newcombs it was so cold. Snow on the ground. Temp at newcombs [by the time I could see straight and not tremble as much] was 27F. With wind chill it was around 0F when I was riding up [65-70mph].
Took me a better part of an hour to thaw out up there with their fire going and a big pot of coffee. Got home and immediately ordered a heated vest. THAT kept me nice and cozy up there next time.
hey pantablo, did u ever install those grips and if so is is it keeping your hands warm? I was thinking about doing the same because the cold air is cutting right though my a* smx air gloves or should i just get some new gloves for winter?
havent yet. been gathering a few things I need to make the whole thing work as planned...bosch relay, heated vest pigtail, wires, connectors, etc. Hope to do it in a week or two.
Other people that have installed them say they couldnt live without them and would install them on every next bike they get. My friend has a bimmer with OEM heated grips and LOVES them. Really takes the chill off riding in the winter.
The heated vest pigtail lets me connect it to the battery directly easily. The relay is so that I can wire the power from the battery, through the relay to the heated grip switch, but also through a keyed wire (so I dont run the battery down after forgetting to turn them off-I'm going to wire it through the license plate light wiring so it on/off switch only operates when the ignition key is ON).
I think that a new "top shelf" battery would be needed. I too am interested in this mod. Im also interested in the vest. Keep me posted with links on both if you can. And if anyone has suggestions for a better battery, a link would be nice. TIA....
btw-the vest works great. I rode home from the trackday in pouring rain (1.5 hrs) and the vest kept me warm all the way home (rainsuit kept me dry). Kept me warm on the way up at 6am too...no issues with charging or battery so far.
I just realized that Dual Star is here in WA. Anyways, I ordered up a set to install on the wifey's F3. She's been wanting these forever. If I dig it, I'll order up a set for the RR as well.
I was supposed to install them this thanksgiving weekend but it was too cold to do the work in the carport! Oh well. I'll have to suck it up at some point. I finally got everything I need, including borrowing a soldering iron to do the wiring up right.
Good luck with the Dual Stars. I've heard they're really good. I have the Kimpex(?) sold by Aerostitch and they cost $27.
