I'm looking to do some upgrades this winter and I wanted to get some feedback for the best horse power gain mods, or the best mods in general. I'm sure a lot of other people are wondering this as well, but are new and unsure like myself. Just list the part, gain, and a link if you have one.
If your looking at bolt on HP as opposed to engine tuning.........
Full arata system
Ten Kate air filter (its what i have, although im sure others will say K+N etc etc)
Velocity Stacks
PC3
And then a run on the dyno
Then, if still not happy, get the motor blueprinted some Kent cams and some light engine tuning. Should give you enough BHP, probs around the 135BHP mark (STD)
That should keep you and the credit card busy for a while
some light tuning and a set of cams is good for 135? what was the baseline on the bike before the work.??? and are there various grinds offered from kent on the cams? if thats what it takes for 135 im all about it!!

What's the point of this post? The guy asked about engine mods. While I agree that suspension is priority number 1, and yields the biggest difference in lap times per dollar spend. Engine work is also important. Getting yarded on the straights sucks.

The point is...onsidering he said "or other best mods in general" and that he's primarily a street rider by his "current mods" suspension work will by far make a greater difference in his riding. Somehow, I just didn't see the post as a racer looking to keep his '03 competitive with the '06's, I could be wrong though. I took the post just as its been done hundres of times before...as how can I get more HP to "say" I have more HP, blah blah blah...when the gold blingin' Ohlins would be the better overall mod, performance or otherwise.
Beside's unless you're a front runner, suspension still will pay a greater role in not getting pulled on the straight by helping keep cornerspeed up
Full system, pc3, custom map and some of my bellmouths are a good start.
After that you need to break into the engine to get some more power.
There is plenty to be had with the right parts.
520 conversion...your engine wont gain any hp but you'll be putting more hp to the ground. Less weight in the driveline = quicker accel. I have an RK quick accel kit which includes an RK x ring chain, -1 in the front and an aluminum rear vortex sprocket. Best $200 you can spend for your bike.
IMO from all the CBR600RR's i have mapped/dyno'd (we have a 250i DJ just for reference) the best hp gain, bar none is the Full Arata system. YES it is expensive, but you get what you pay for. HIGH quality, amazing fit and finish, and great SMOOTH and LOTS of hp!
After that, i would instal a set of FP Stacks, BMC race filter and map correctly. MOST i have dyno'd even with a DJ map off line are wayyy too rich above 8k. Best thing is when a guy hooks up the PC to his Top injectors...always cracks me up.
Good luck. Ill post some pics of our AMA Fx bike with the full system that we have "modified" ie shortened canister 4". LOOKS AWESOME!
Ed, i was just browsing your site, an i plan on Vstacks, BMC and custom PC. and -1 520 gearing, i already have a Jardine slip on, about how much should i be expecting, roughly.
And how many runs does it take for an average shop to get a good map, so i dont get charged an arm and a leg?

we charge a flat fee of $250 to bypass (unless you have already) PAIR valve and all dyno runs, mapping. Usually takes us about 1/2 day. I do about 5-8 bikes a day (not all mapping, but seems like i live on that damn thing... :lol)
Also, just an idea. -1tooth front does not seem to be enough for most. might go up a tooth or even two on the rear. we run -1ft/+3rr but are running a 6x17 marvic with a BIG Dunlop 195/70-17" slick.
I think most shops charge $200-$400 for a map. KEY thing is to find a shop you trust, guys that DO YOUR BIKES, (ie not a dealer with a dyno they use for atv's mostly), preferably a race shop, this is our life. also, find a tuner that you can talk to, the guy that runs the dyno/maps it, not just a service advisor.
Yeah thats what most say but im a new rider so im gearing gradually.
what im thinking tho, is installing some of my parts and just taking it in just for the dyno, i dont want cats stealing my junk, but the guys i use for everything, they are a triumph dealer, but they service everything, and they used to race.
So i dont know, the other guys on the other side of town ive heard horror stories about them stealing parts and straight up messing up bikes.
So the triumph guys righjt now are my best bet i think.
i got it booted! I did not think i was advertising. I mean, im just an enthusiat with this bike, and since im spending more money on it than probably any other CBR600RR owner, i figured you guys/gals would like to see what we are doing and what works. We are VERY highly respected in this industry and also looked upon freq. on other forums like sportbikes.ws
I apologize if i stepped on toes. Did not mean too.
I would go to a shop that you trust! That is vital. I have guys ship me bikes from east coast just for service! honestly, right now we are doing a Bimota SB8R...simply stunning, but makes me nervous to work on, not like i can just go down to local Bimota dealer and order up a Carbon self supporting subframe/seat unit.... hahaha.
Trust in a shop is everything!!!! I have similar problem with my cars. NO ONE i trust!!

I'm a little dissapointed about the link being removed. I call BullShitt once again on this site. Ed Who? has every right to show his link and is not trying to sell anything on here. TimRadley, Birdman, even Clarkie have shown links to their place of work. There is no reason why Ed Who? should be treated any different. Leave the link alone..
Yeah, thats right.
man i like you CV, your a cool ass dude man.
