Military Members Info

Good area for those looking into the military who need advice from ACTUAL members and not just: someone whos dads brothers friend was once in a unit with someone that did some stuff that he heard about.

So, post up your Branch, Rank, MOS/AFSC, Job title and a short blurp of time in service, deployments, skills aquired etc.

Please, Keep this thread ON TOPIC, and ONLY post one time with your information. If you are coming in here to find information about the military, please PM whom ever you would like, and DO NOT post your questions in here.

I'll go ahead and start this off:

MidnightSpeed (Cole)
Air Force.
A1C. (E-3)
3E931.
Emergency Management Apprentice.
Lackland AFB, TX 2/11 - 4/11
Ft. Leonard Wood, MO 4/11-7/11
Robins AFB, GA 7/11 - Current

With my job, I am, for the most part, a teacher. I train people how to properly disassemble and inspect their M50 or MCU-2 mask, as well as inspect and don and doff their JLIST/CPO. I teach them Pre, Trans, and Post attack actions if something were to happen. The most fun I have with my job is when I put the classes through the Gas Chamber, as part of their CBRN class.

I'm also perform BEPO, Base Emergency Preparedness Orientations for all the newcomers to Robins AFB.

I am also trained as a HAZMAT Responder.

Army
Chief Warrant Officer 2 (CW2)
150U (Prior MOS: 15J with 160th SOAR)
Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Operations Technician

Stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado

I've been in for 10 years as of this past June.

For the most part I oversee all flight operations with the RQ-7B Shadow for my platoon but I can switch to any Army Unmanned Aircraft. The Enlisted Soldiers fly and maintain the aircraft and I stay busy with airspace, frequency management, standardizations, etc. I'm the Subject matter expect for everything UAS in my Brigade.

By the way we are super short in this MOS for operators (15W) and they make a killing in the civilian world. Hence the reason we can't keep them.

Handyman,

The AM rate must be locked up if you have been in that long and are still an AM2. I know when I was enlisted my rate had a very high advancement rate but damn man that sucks. But if you love the job who cares, and it's not like we do this for the money.

How do you like Lemoore? Is there really nothing there? I'm considering jets when I finish primary flight training in a few months and would like to go to Lemoore or Japan if I did. But if I don't select jets I won't be disappointed because I really want helos. I just love flying all together and am glad I have this opportunity that most will never get.

I've lived there for 2 years. I hate working base security when I ship pulls in.
Chief "Oh just call their shore patrol."
Us "They don't ******* answer their radios."
Chief "Search for them"
Us "And leave a scene yea we'll see how that goes later."
Chief "**** it arrest them and we'll call the ship to come get them"
Us "**** it we'll look the other way"

Prior Army
SPC (E-4)
Military Police
Currently on deployment to Afghanistan.

What are you looking for in the Air Force? When deployed, and you will deploy, you will most likely be sitting in a tower by yourself or with a local for 12 hours a day and be treated like you have the lowest asvab score in the Air Force. (SF has the lowest required score in the AF) Now being prior army i understand the short coming there too, but in this career field you will be treated better and you will be held to a higher standard as an Army MP. I would take a good look at what you want to actually do and what you want out of the military. I am one of the luck ones to have an outside the wire posting right now because of my army experience but majority of security forces sit in towers or search people all day. If you go active duty, most law enforcement has been contracted out, so there is a high likelihood you will sit and watch a plane or resource for 8-12 hours. I am lucky once again that i am guard. I only have to be treated like I have the lowest asvab score in the air force for one weekend a month. There are many opportunities in the Air Force and Security Forces in the only career field I have found this to be true. I ould take a long look at the career field you choose before making any decision. If you have any questions please let me know.

Ive been in six years now. Had a blast jumping from Air Force planes, Army helos, kicking in doors in Iraq for a few deployments. Apparently I had too much fun since the Army decided to throw me out into recruiting. Almost done with my time and reclassing into intelligence. You got a question about current qualifications let me know. You have a question about a specific job, ask someone who works in it.

O2E

I was enlisted for 11 years and was a submarine nuclear reactor operator where I deployed numerous times to various places. I just finished flight school, where I learned to fly helicopters. I can answer questions about submarine life, being a nuke, and flight school. Also for any enlisted guys, I received my commission through the STA-21 program, so I can help with questions about that as well.

Ex Navy here.

Best rate in the Navy.....HM (Hosptial Corpsman)

If I could do it all over again I would have went into Special Forces and shoot for a SEAL team Medic or gone SARC (Special amphibious reconnaissance Corpsman) A medic of a Marine Recon team.

But I got out after my first enlistment because I thought the civilian world was going to be so much better, turns out...it wasnt and I tried to re enlist as an HM again and the process was going to take a bit. Then I ended up landing a good job so I stayed a civilian, and I just found out we are having a kid. So now im no longer going to re enlist. I have been out for just over a year. Heck maybe we are giving birth to a future SEAL Corpsman....That would make me a proud daddy haha.

Anyway enough babbling. As you can see im pretty biased towards my rate in the Navy. But youll find out that alot of Service members really enjoy the rate they are in and some hate it.

But honestly you have to think what you like the best and what field you want to go into that would fit you the best. In the Navy you can do everything from chase **** through pipes on a ship to being a Tier 1 Navy SEAL.

"I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction: 'I served in the United States Navy.'"

I was enlisted for 11 years and was a submarine nuclear reactor operator where I deployed numerous times to various places. Now I am learning to fly. I can answer questions about submarine life, being a nuke, and some about flight school because I'm still in it. Also for any enlisted guys, I received my commission through the STA-21 program, so I can help with questions about that as well.
I have a friend that is doing STA-21 currently. She's been in for roughly 8 years and just hit Chief (iirc). She said its a great deal and great way to get your commission. I plan on dropping my packet when I get to Hawaii (I'm training to be a CTI currently. I turned down nuke for this.. I think math/science + huge enlistment bonus would have been a smarter idea).
