got lost and missed turns several times and eventually found scenic highway 76.
Somewhere around Vadito, was hit with hail while staring at the ski slopes in the distance
The day was getting long when i reached Taos, missed a turn again, and decided to not take the scenic detour east on 64 and 38, instead headed straight north.
Traveled for a while and saw nothing but goats, 1 acre of farmland, a few single axle trailers, and lots of wild horse signs, ice warnings, while smelling sage near the Colorado NM border.
Reached highway 160 and headed east through colorado.
Felt Hypothermia coming on, toes and fingers were going numb, hadnt seen another vehicle in 30 minutes, pulled over at a pull over for Semi to install chains, to put a heat pack in my jacket and try a little Gangnam dance after being inspired by the wildhorse signs.
A few miles later noticed snow on the ground in the canyon below me and saw a few 9500'+ signs and finally understood why I was cold.
Pulled over at a scenic rest stop/road, and took some photos of La Veta and what looked to be gigantic stone walls running up the mountain.
With perfect timing came to Lathrop State park 30 minutes before dusk, Campground full... Well then whats the next campground? John Martin Resivoir in Las Animas, its only ~100 miles cant be too far. got lost at Walsenburg drove 1/3 the way to Trinidad, on I25, drove back north at 70+miles on the tank, read 7x miles to La Junta, and went for it. 70x miles, and 4 counties of nothing later, the fuel gauge was flashing. 10pm Got dinner at Village Inn then drove a couple miles across the tracks to get some Gas. Turned around to get back on the right highway and an foggy hour later reached the reservoir.
At the resivioir drove around found the lower campground verified there was a spot open after riding around on the muddy dirt/gravel roads, decided to go to the non hookup upper campground and save 7 dollars.... after a while the road turned to 2" of muck, car tracks were sliding 2 ft to the side, thought it cant get any worse and I cant turn around, 1/10 of a mile later turned it around after almost dumping it a few times.:retard:Set up camp at 11-12pm covered in mud. at 1am decided to deal with the aftermath in the morning.
