BMW S1000RR engine recall

Has anyone seen this? Pretty big issue for BMW.

Saw this earlier, pretty surprising. Curious as to what they changed in the 2012 engine vs all their previous years

At least they recalled them instead of screwing people like Honda did with the '08 1000RR oil burning fiasco.

^ the 1000RR burned oil, yes. but they werent down on compression or power from what i understand. Im guessing thats why Honda didn't recall


I have seen two BMW S1000RRs blow engines at the track. IMO BMW is not having good luck with their engines.

I can't read the details of this recal (i am at work and that signt is blocked) but I imagine this recall is long over due.

Anyone that believes that there isn't more to it than just having to add oil has never seen the inside of the motors. The '08 was a disaster. Mine was burning a quart every 700 miles and a quart by lunchtime at the track. Honda said there wasn't enough smoke in the exhaust so I got screwed, even with the extended warranty.

It deserved more attention than they gave it.
