GoPro editing software?

So I've had the GoPro 2 for a while now, maybe 3 months or so.

But I haven't really uploaded much videos on to YouTube (maybe 2)

I just wanted to know what softwares people used to cut, edit, add songs, usual Youtube video editing?

As GoPro owners may know, videos are saved as mp4 so to use Windows movie maker (assuming people have PC) requires a step to convert it first. Even then My project isn't saving as GoPro quality (720p) and every output I try gives it crap quality.

So what (free) programs/softwares do you guys use to upload your exciting GoPro footage?

THanks in advance!

So do what program do you use to convert GoPro (mp4) footage to avi to use for WMM?

Also, when you "publish" a.k.a make your movie, what type of file do you save as?

Like it shows
"best quality for playback on my computer"
"compress to ___________"
"more settings [DV-AVI(NTSC)]" ( This one has pull down option which has other settings like windows media HD quality blah blah etc)

When I chose the default DV-AVI one it became kind of garbage quality. NOWHERE near the original GoPro footage...

all of my footage are recorded in Mp4 format already, so i dont convert it,or in my case isnt necessary via WMmaker. . i just drop it in there and cut it and add music. then when its time to publish it defual-ty publish it into WMV, i then just upload to the tube and called it good.

tho WMM sucks cause i found out that any vid i make over 5 min or sso, when its almost done publishing, it crashed telling something is missing, i then have to chop the in half and then do it again.
plus i have vids from my HD camcorder and it format MTS file which WMM cant edit crap with it. im now ..just started using Pinnacle studio 12, BUT now my laptop is to slow to catch up...

I used Windows Movie and like Nutty said, it crashes a lot. Been Using Adobe Premier Elements 9 and 10. Compared to some other very expensive options Premier Elements does the job fine at a reasonable price. (PC) Cant say much about the Mac options as I now spend my $ on my bike and quit splashing on computers. Hence have not owned a Mac, yet!

I use windows movie maker as well and have had really good luck with video quality. I dont have to convert the videos and have exported movies up to 12 minutes long (haven't made one any longer then that yet). I export it for "high definition viewing" or what ever...

(shameless video plug: I recommend viewing at 720p)

This thread is fully of blasphemy.

Get some real software. ie

Adobe Premiere CS6 (What I currently use)
Final Cut Pro (Any version before X)

Using windows movie maker and iMovie will give you a run of the mill typical poorly edited video. If you want your video to stand out and be different go pirate some real software and teach your self how to do it (again what I did).

Go pro footage tends to not be very saturated so having the ability to color correct makes a world of difference in your videos.

You'll pay out the butt for good editing software. Anywhere from $600-$1200 bucks.

Yeah, I created a video from clips I filmed during a trip to Istanbul. I found out very fast how much Windows Movie Maker sucks and tried some other free software that was better, but not very precise linking up sound with video. I then got a trial version of Premiere - what a difference! It stitched together and brought out the colors in my poorly filmed work and made it look not too bad. It still sucked, but because of my filming "skills," not the software. Editing is a huge job not to be underestimated, but the right software will make a huge difference.

Alright guys, so I guess the only reasonable thing to do is to "obtain" a Final Cut pro ? (anything before X)

Also for those of you who said they use WMM and dont need to convert from mp4, are you guys using windows 8? cause I'm on a vista (yeah its an older computer) and vista WMM doesn't seem to work with mp4 files

I've just downloaded Premiere Elements 11 and will attempt to re-edit my video and see how it works out. The reason I didn't buy it last time I downloaded an earlier trial version was that my comp couldn't handle the rendering work and it was a pain due to slow speed in general. A new comp means it may be possible now. You can buy this program for under $100, I think. It's actually not that much and good editing will do a lot more for quality than a higher fps or red on the camera imo.
