BOTM Rules -revised Jan 2014

Bike of the Month Rules

------------------------------------------------------------
What is Bike of the Month (BOTM)?

Show off that bike you've worked so hard on.

Once a month up to six bikes will be considered by the members who will vote on their favourite by means of public poll.

The voting period will be from the 14th of the month until the 30th/31st of that same month. So, on January 14 through January 31 the members will vote on who will be BOTM January.

To be eligible to enter BOTM you will need to have 100 posts and have been a member for 60 days. As will all polls on dotnet, to be eligible to vote you'll need 50 posts.

Each entry will consist of two photos per person, with the mod list no longer allowed you'll want to make them good and ensure that they clearly show off the best of what you've done to your bike. Replacing/Revising the photo of your bike will not allowed once voting has begun. Posting additional pictures of your bike in the BOTM thread is prohibited.

You may answer questions about your bike in the BOTM thread, however discussion of your mods cannot be allowed as this will result in one person having a mod list published and another not, making the competition unfair and being against what you all voted for, that being to get rid of the mod list.

You may not create threads or post pictures of your bike in other sections while competing in BOTM. Members who violate these rules will be disqualified.

------------------------------------------------------------
Prizes

BOTM winners will receive a unique profile title identifying them as a Bike of the Month winner and which month & year.

Once 12 months have passed and there are 12 BOTM winners they will all be entered in Bike of the Year. Bike of the year winners will receive a unique profile title identifying them as a Bike of the Year winner.

Other prizes may be given from time to time for BOTM and BOTY winners, but as there is no funding available it will be from the generosity of the community, so whilst there may be one there is certainly no guarantee.

Questions about BOTM & BOTY should be directed to -Rizzo-.

Good luck and please enter early.

------------------------------------------------------------
How do I enter my bike into BOTM?

Members can upload pictures of the bikes to the Photo Album and send the picture URL to -Rizzo- (via Private Message). Alternatively, you can also host the picture yourself (i.e.: photobucket, imageshack, etc.) and provide the link via PM. Please provide pictures no smaller than 640x480 and no larger than 1024x768. Images outside of these sizes will not be posted.

Pictures many not contain other bikes, people, girls in swimsuits (I know it's a shame), etc. Only 600RRs are accepted as BOTM entries. You must be the current owner of the bike to enter it.

Your picture will be placed in the next available position in the next available month.

New entries are always encouraged. Two entries will be allowed per calendar year, however new entrants will take priority.

This sucks for people that go for performance rather than looks. There are some amazing track bikes that don't have amazing looks.

Turning into more of a picture contest rather than bike contest.

I wouldn't say that. A well built bike will speak for itself. And the amount of fluff in the mods lists is getting ridiculous

Exactly what wibbly and I thought the other day when we blew up trevv's build thread. Now the bikes will definitely be based on ascetics unless people are following builds along the way like rock just posted. Questions about the bike would be hard to answer as an entrant since you need to stay away from any questions concerning the mods, too. The botm will definitely be interesting from now on. Let's see how it goes!

I agree on the fact that a well built bike will speak for itself, but like we discussed earlier, how many people take the time to run through a bike closely examining every mod let alone how it's all visually based now.. We shall see how this turns out. I'll be positive for now!

I suppose this format does rely on a more educated voter and may backfire entirely... But that's something we won't know until a few botms go through. Chinese fairings and decal kits seem to do well, hopefully it doesn't get worse haha

Its not about 'every' mod. Hence the fluff I was referring to. The big ticket stuff is obvious

An educated voter was the exact words I was trying to think of.. haha and you're spot on with the fact that the forum will have to test it out to see how it goes and if people like the results or not.

I would have to be partial on the big ticket items that you mentioned. They are obvious from a looks standpoint especially the forks and wheels you're putting on your bike but there is also other ticket items behind the plastics that will go unnoticed. Pictures could play a large factor into that, too. Just depends on how people represent their bike.

The rules are what you voted them to be... I wouldn't have done it quite this way if it were up to me alone, but it is what we were asked to do.

Dont worry about my opinion as I cant even vote on polls or botm yet.. give the thread time and I'm sure there will be supporters posting their opinions sooner or later. Let's give it a shot and see how it goes. What would you have liked to see?

There have been months that I didn't vote at all. All the pretty mods do nothing for me, and some months that's all there is.

I'm not saying that people that build pretty bikes are wrong, it's just not my thing. I can spot a well built performance bike a mile away.

You should have been able to vote on polls, and I've fixed that for you. Signing up for a premium membership seems to mess with the promotion system. You may find that you don't get access to the classifieds section when you hit 60 days, if you don't have it by the 25th or 26th, shoot me a PM and I'll sort it out.

I wasn't expecting this change, nor did I ever see a poll for it. It is what it is, you can't make everyone happy. Mod lists were cool, but I felt that some took it out of proportion with their "fluff mods". Doesn't matter anymore though.

The way I see it is people go to bike off the month and vote on what to them is visual the best. If someone wants to vote on mods then they might go to the build pages to see what is or not done. Most of the people on here know mosts of the bikes as they go up for the month. As nico said "To be eligible to enter BOTM you will need to have 100 posts and have been a member for 60 days. As will all polls on dotnet, to be eligible to vote you'll need 50 posts." So their is a chance new people will start a build thread to make up posts so they can enter or vote. Just my 2cents

Some of the rules are great, but no mod list is absolutely unfair. If you have invested in a 1000USD slipper clutch, how the hell will the voters know about it? Engine work will be completely invisible as well. Sure there is a lot of fluff in the modlists but saying someone can spot a well performance-modded bike a mile away is ridiculous. Will you see the Ohlins cartridge kit from a mile away, the lightened crank, flashed ECU and the list goes on......I don't think so.

IMO, There should be a limitation on the mod list, 15 items left to the discretion of the owner. It's only fair.

Well one of the options was 75 words or less but no mod list outvoted it

If it upsets you this much that a bunch of strangers on the internet won't know that you spent a grand on a clutch its pretty safe to say you're modifying your bike for all the wrong reasons

And as stated previously, the build threads cover all that stuff anyway.

There is no right or wrong reason to modify a bike. Just because it's not your reason doesn't make it a bad one.
