wife crashed!

weekend started horribly when my wife crashed the ninja. we were riding out for the morning as per a post i made last week, but it didnt last an hour.

She locked the front and went down while approaching a traffic light.
she cant really remember what happaened and i didnt see it happen as she had just waived me past. i got th eligth green, she got it changing and decided to stop.

The emergency room sent her home with the entire right leg in a cast. knee ligaments damaged and some road rash. Helmet has scrapes all around and on top so i think she rolled or tumbled. (wearing helmet , jacket and gloves). jeans got torn and right shoe was torn open.

its quite frigtening to have this happen to a loved one. she has decided riding is not for her and we will be selling it as soon as insurance completes the repairs.

aw man I'm sorry to hear that, I hope she heals up quick.

I know how you're feeling, I had a similar thing with my gf, she high sided, luckily her injuries weren't as severe, but still a frightening experience for me, so I can only imagine how she felt.

best wishes

Get her back on it before she sells it. Can't end that way. Even if its just around the neighborhood.

thanks for all the well wishes.

insurance scrapped it. damage was more than 80% of market value, and thats on fairings alone.

Glad to hear she's ok! I know what you went through. My finace has had a couple of those...

This one, it left her in a neck brace with (2) fractured vertebrea in her neck.

And this one just just a bit tough on her shoulder.

ok so the insurance reduced the cost (not sure yet how) to prevent it being scrapped. damage is now down to 60% of market value (50% of purchase price in 2011).

in other word she is being repaired. the wife not happy about it she wants it gone.

im hoping it will help her heal the menta scars when she sees the bike again. what you all think? her leg is doing better though

Glad to hear she's healing up! I would keep it around a little longer but don't push her back on it quickly. If riding is really her thing she will get back on eventually. If not then mark it up as a life experience and move on.

The first one, that left her with a couple fractured vertebrae, that one took some time. She spent a week in ICU on a morphine drip. Needless to say that was tough.

For about a year she wouldn't go near a bike. Then she decided she wanted to get back out there. She did a track day on her CRF150R. She had fun, a few months later she did a few track days on her DR-Z 400SM and had a blast. Then before ya know it, she was out there on my 600RR having a blast.

The second picture was actually a wreck during a race at Homestead Speedway, I got her bike fixed up and she made the grid for her last race, she said she couldn't leave the track without getting back out. If she didn't she would lose. She didn't do very well in that race, she was timid. But she did better than most would, she got back up, got back on the bike and gridded up!

This with the added pressure of a RACE! :) I'm very proud of her!

That's rough (both of you guy's stories). My wife can't wait to learn to ride and I wont be telling her no. Scares the hell out of me though, not sure how I could handle it if something were to happen to her.

I'm very sorry to hear your wife is struggling with it, she's obviously got a lot of anxiety about the crash. I'm not an expert but from my experience of my last crash I had a lot of different scenarios running though my head afterwards, like if I had been 1 second quicker on throttle, I'd have been in front of that car rather than hit the side of it & I'd have been dead. I had to keep reminding myself that the worst DID NOT happen, I'm alive & that's all that matters. Maybe she's thinking of what could have happened more than what actually happened?

I guess it will take time for her to heal mentally. as for her physical injuries, obviously everyone is different but my crash happened 3 years ago & I still get pain in my knee on certain days.

just be supportive & I hope she gets better soon
