I have a cbr600rr with a bent tail, so I ordered a straight subframe. What tools do I need to replace the subframe entirely? Is it difficult?
Also, ordered non-oem fairings. However the plastic area surrounding the dashboard display is cracked on the right side. Are there replacement plastics for this area??
A dynamometric torque wrench (maybe 1/2" is enough) to tighten properly all serious nuts and bolts. First remove all fairings and you will see which pieces are bent and need to be replaced. Also the workshop manual in your language or in english. In this website you can view all the pieces of any cbr, the reference for each and price.
What year? I just remove my 2007's subframe and to be honest it was a bit of a pain. I'll can make a mini-write up from what I remember if you have an 07 or up.
The bottom bolts on each side have a nut on the inside that needs to be held in order to back out the bolt. On the right side, the plastic of the subframe tray covers the nut for what seems to be no reason except to make this annoyingly hard. Cutting or dremeling away the plastic to expose the nut may save you some time (I think I bent it out of the way and cut it off later)
The EGCV needs to be dropped out of the tray
There are two small screws that hold the subframe tray to a small tray plank that exists underneath the gas tank. The gas tank prevents access to the screw tops in any easy way; I was able to unscrew them using a tiny thumb/finger screwdriver, but removing the fuel tank may make this quite a bit easier
I think the rear brake light connector will need unplugged from the wire harness; maybe some other connectors. Be careful to not tug too hard on the wiring
You'll need to stow the rear brake fluid tubing/reservoir when the subframe is off, plan for this
It's all metric. You'll want combo wrenches and sockets. 8, 10, 12 14 and 17 are the most common sizes around the bike. If you don't have a basic set, now is the time to get one.
yeah get 50 bucks and make a run to harbor freight. cheap tools and seem to work well for this stuff, i use mine all the time.
