Hello forum, hope you can help me out with this problem.
Have an 05 CBR600 that is shutting off. If you crack the throttle open too fast just shuts off.. have to turn key off and back on then will fire right back up.. Go easy on the throttle gets you a little farther but will still shut off. Now for the strange part.. put bike on a stand and get rear tire off ground you can go through all the gears rev it all you want, never dies. Get back on make it a half block and shuts off. Not intermittent .. every time. Only code is 11 Speed sensor.. speedo works fine. Any ideas?
I'm far from a mechanic or even close to an expert on these bikes but it sounds like maybe the kickstand sensor? Or maybe the killswitch is faulty. And the vibration of getting on the throttle hard on the road is triggering the issue. Whereas on the stand there isn't as much vibration and as such no issue.
Then again everything I just typed could be the furthest thing from the truth you read all day haha.
Anecdote: a while ago I had let someone else replace my stator cover and he accidentally installed the coils backwards, and the flywheel shredded the cable that connects to the rest of the system. So (unknown to me) the battery was not charging while riding; since this is my track bike, I was getting some laps in before weirdness was happening. First, my gauges went weird, then turned off, but the bike kept running; shortly after, going WOT or any high throttle would make the bike sputter until it just cut out completely. Turns out running a total loss system doesn't get you very far on a stock bike (maybe like 15 laps?)
Thought of the stand sensor, it's good. Battery shows good voltage with bike off and proper voltage while running. I'm also thinking it has to have something to do with vibrations from the road but cant figure out what.. haven't checked kill switch yet but will. I would think if it's the fuel pump it would do it on the stand as well. Also it doesn't have to be WOT it will just die quicker if you try to crack it open, it dies no matter what you do.
Bank angle sensor loose and flopping around? What sticks out to me is that you have to key-off and then on to get it start up again. When the bank angle sensor is triggered it also requires a key-off / key on cycle to get the bike to reactivate.
