Was great to see Ducati back, and 1-2 at that!! Most def a Ducati track (but will it be next year sans winglets.....) Congrats again to Iannone and Dovi for getting it done. Not sure what Iannone was happier about, his first GP win or the first Ducati win since Stoner :p Marc depsite his shoulder ran a great pace to get P5, Jorge looked like he won with his Podium finsih, his confidence is high for sure! he is strong here! it was really too bad to not see Vale get on the podium with his mate :(
Love back to back races :) lets see what Brno brings us

About the circuit
The world’s most famous riders have taken part in GP events in Brno since 1930, where up until 1982 they would race through the villages and western parts of the city on a road track named after the first Czechoslovak President - T.G. Masaryk. A new circuit was built during the 1980s with the aim of attracting Formula 1 to Czechoslovakia, and in 1987 it played host to the FIM Czech Grand Prix. Popular with both fans and riders, the new circuit is built in a natural bowl which is banked in places to offer spectators an excellent view. Brno constantly changes in elevation as it sweeps across forested hillsides and its fast undulating corners test rider talent and engineering to the limit.

Interesting atricle from SR re the dash warnings teams will be able to disply.
just reading more on the dashboard changes coming, really too bad about Bradl and esp Barbera.. Bradl thought something was wrong w his bike seeing the bottom half of the dash flashing? and Barbera couldnt understand it. David (DoomCue) had a good comment, what happens if its damaged in a crash but the rider is able to re mount?

I kind of like the randomness of who wins or finishes a wet race or flag to flag, I hope the comms don't get too intricate. A little luck in the championship makes it more interesting. However, if comms like this are approved, there better be a damn goodb backup in place, and if one system goes down, they all get taken offline.

Jorge Lorenzo's rostrum return in Austria has given the reigning MotoGP world champion a shot in the arm as he bids to emulate his dominant 2015 victory at Brno in the Czech Republic this weekend.

Lorenzo, second in the championship reckoning and 43 points behind Honda's Marc Marquez, is a huge fan of the circuit, which the Spaniard says is the perfect match for his factory Movistar Yamaha YZR-M1.

MotoGP » MotoGP Czech Republic: 'Beautiful' Brno lights Lorenzo's fire
17 August 2016

'Last year we dominated the race and I hope to have good feelings there again this time round' - Jorge Lorenzo.

“We achieved a great result in Austria after a difficult period for me, so I'm pretty happy to come back with a podium finish. I'm happy to ride again this week at Brno in a back-to-back race,” Lorenzo said.

“That race track is beautiful and it suits the YZR-M1 perfectly. I like the Brno circuit a lot because it has plenty of high-speed corners and I have good memories there. Last year we dominated the race and I hope to have good feelings there again this time round.

“We need to stay in the fight again and try to recover some more points for the championship as we did in Spielberg.”

Lorenzo, who will join Andrea Dovizioso at Ducati in 2017, has won twice in the premier class at Brno in 2010 and again last season.

MotoGP Czech Republic: Rossi 'curious' over potential at Brno
17 August 2016

'Last year Jorge was much faster than me and I'm curious to see if this year I will do better' - Valentino Rossi.
Valentino Rossi says he is 'curious' to discover if he match team-mate Jorge Lorenzo's pace at Brno in the Czech Republic this weekend.

Lorenzo won the corresponding MotoGP race last year, with Rossi finishing over 10 seconds adrift in third place on the Movistar Yamaha M1.

The nine-time world champion missed out on the podium after finishing fourth behind Lorenzo at the Red Bull Ring in Austria on Sunday, where both factory Yamaha riders slightly reduced championship leader Marc Marquez's cushion at the top of the points table.

Marquez crossed the line in fifth on the Repsol Honda but still holds sway by a healthy lead of 43 points.

Rossi said: “I like that we go back on track immediately. In Austria I wanted to get on the podium but I wasn't able to so unfortunately. Anyway, it was a good race.

“After the tests we were a little bit in trouble but during the race we didn't do so badly. Now we go to Brno, a track that we know well and that I like very much.

“Last year Jorge was much faster than me and I'm curious to see if this year I will do better,” the Italian added. “We are working well and the Brno GP is close. I want to get back on track.”

Rossi is 57 points behind Marquez after the first 10 championship rounds and 14 back on Lorenzo in second position.

MotoGP Czech Republic: Injured Marquez regroups for Brno
16 August 2016

'The shoulder didn't bother me during the race but it was a bit sore afterwards, so these couple of days before Brno have been good to rest a bit' - Marc Marquez.
Marc Marquez will utilise a few days' rest ahead of this weekend's Czech MotoGP round at Brno after dislocating his left shoulder in Austria.

Marquez suffered the injury in FP3 as he braked while trying to avoid a slowing Dani Pedrosa. However, he was able to contest Sunday's race at the Red Bull Ring and finished in fifth place behind title rivals Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi in a successful damage limitation exercise.

The Repsol Honda rider still holds a healthy advantage of 43 points at the top of the table over Lorenzo after the first ten championship rounds and although the 23-year-old admits Brno is not his on his list of favourites circuits, he remains confident of being in the fight for the rostrum.

“We had a challenging weekend in Austria but we did the best we could and, all things considered, we were able to get away quite well,” he said.

“The shoulder didn't bother me during the race but it was a bit sore afterwards, so these couple of days before Brno have been good to rest a bit.

“Brno isn't one of my favourite tracks but we've been able to get some good results there in the past. We must be really focused and work well in order to be able to fight for the podium again.”

Marquez achieved his sole MotoGP victory at Brno in 2013. He finished in the runner-up spot last year behind Movistar Yamaha's Lorenzo.

A one-day MotoGP test is scheduled at Brno on Monday following the race weekend.

It will be interesting to see if Marquez's shoulder becomes an issue for the remainder of the season. If it pops out again after another crash we may see him lose some of that balls out aggressiveness, which is the key to his success.

IMO Valentino has been the most consistent rider this season. He's been at the front every race wet or dry, but just suffered some unfortunate circumstances. I think he's still got a solid shot at the title.

#10 ·
You're right, of course. While the lead seems big, all it takes is a DNF or two or an injury to see that go away. I'm sure Marquez has learned his lesson about that, though. Rossi has made several mistakes in races, mistakes he usually gets away with, but this year, they've resulted in DNFs. The blown engine was obviously not his fault, but that was a crushing blow to his hopes.

Bautista to Aspar Ducati, will be joined by either Hernandez or Laverty. Laverty says he will only join if he and his teammate are on the same machine.

Aspar confirms Alvaro Bautista for MotoGP 2017

The Aspar Ducati team has confirmed the long-awaited news that Alvaro Bautista will join its MotoGP team for 2017.*

The Spaniard, left without a ride at Aprilia, will get 2016 Desmosedici machinery.*

“I am happy to be returning to what was my home for many years in the World Championship, where I enjoyed my best results including the 125cc World Championship title and fought for another title in 250cc," Bautista said.*

"I am happy and motivated to be going back and especially to have another year in MotoGP, a new adventure. Over the years I have grown a lot and I have much more experience now. I am confident that with this team we can be competitive in 2017.”*

Bautista has ridden for the Suzuki (factory), Honda (satellite) and Aprilia (factory) teams during his seven years in MotoGP. His most successful was 2012, when he took the RCV to two podiums, one pole and fifth in the world championship.*

"For the Aspar Team it gives us great pleasure in every sense to welcome Álvaro Bautista back," added team manager Jorge Martinez 'Aspar'. "As a team we picked up our first World Championship title with him back in 2006 and we enjoyed some wonderful years together.*

"Our professional and personal relationship with him is excellent and for the team and our sponsors this is great news. My hope and desire is that this brings great results for Ducati and for us. It is important for us to have a Spanish rider with his record and his professionalism. He can give us an advantage on track.”*

One of Aspar's current riders - Yonny Hernandez or Eugene Laverty - is set to join Bautista for 2017, but rumoured to be on GP15 machines.*

Laverty has made clear he will only stay if he has equal machinery to his team-mate. If not, the Irishman will return to the World Superbike Championship, where he is a key target for*Aprilia's proposed factory return in partnership with SMR.

Fenati has been sacked

Moto3: Romano Fenati officially out of VR46, Dalla Porta in

Sky VR46 has confirmed a permanent split with Romano Fenati and that Lorenzo Dalla Porta will take over his KTM Moto3 seat from Silverstone.*

Fenati, third in the world championship, was sensationally suspended on the eve of last weekend's Austrian race for repeated, but undisclosed, misdemeanors - thought to involve heated arguments with team members.*

VR46 owner and mentor Valentino Rossi then all but confirmed Fenati's VR46 career was over when*he spoke of 'giving up' on his countryman.*

Fenati had been due to move up to Moto2 with VR46 next season.*

Dalla Porta will now ride alongside Andrea Migno and Nicolò Bulega for the final seven events of this year, having already signed to be a full-time Mahindra Aspar rider next season.*

There will be no replacement for Fenati at this weekend's Brno round.*

The #5's future plans are unknown but, despite the sacking, his proven race-winning form means he should receive offers from other grand prix teams.

20 years and counting since Rossi’s first win

Back to where it all began in 1996 – a rookie victory in Brno

20 years ago at the Czech GP, a young Italian rookie took his first win on the world stage as he beat Jorge Martinez in the 125 race. That Italian rookie was Valentino Rossi, and the victory was the first for a man who would go on to conquer the sport on a previously unknown level.

Now 37, the ‘Gallina vecchia’ is as much a frontrunner as ever, with wins already in 2016 and 9 titles in his wake – as well as some of the most famous and spectacular moments in modern motorcycle racing history. There are traces of the fresh-faced 125 rookie in the 37-year-old 9-time champion that will never be erased, much like the memories for those who raced him, watched him and joined him on the journey…from his first win in Brno, to preparing to take to the grid once more – 20 years later.

Miller ruled out for Brno

Australian unable to ride at the Czech GP following crash in Austria

Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS rider Jack Miller will be unable to compete in the HJC Helmets Ceské Republiky in Brno this weekend, as the Australian has been ruled out of the event following a crash in morning Warm Up at the Red Bull Ring. Miller sustained hairline fractures to his T6 vertebra and wrist in the highside, and was initially ruled fit for Brno before later withdrawing from the event.

Miller was passed fit but the EG 0,0 Marc VDS team have decided, in conjunction with HRC and Miller’s management, to withdraw the Assen GP winner from the race weekend in Brno. The decision is to ensure the maximum possible recovery time for both injuries, ahead of a return to the grid at the British GP at Silverstone.

Michael Bartholemy, Team Principal: "Jack is a racer, so he obviously wanted to race after being passed fit today. However, after discussions with both HRC and Jack's management team, we have made the decision to withdraw him from the Czech Grand Prix. For us it's more important that he has more time to recover from the crash in Austria, because we want him back to full fitness as soon as possible. Our priority is to have a fully fit rider back on the bike and that's why we made this decision."

Andrea Iannone (Ducati Team) has picked up where he left off in the Austrian GP after the Italian took the first win for Ducati since Casey Stoner at Phillip Island in 2010. The ‘Maniac’ was having a solid first session until a problem with his first machine led him to pull over and get a lift back to the pits, before a second stint on his second bike saw him top the session in the final few minutes.

After an early 1-2 for the Movistar Yamaha MotoGP team, Valentino Rossi hit back at his teammate after Jorge Lorenzo had topped the session, and the Italian veteran took the top spot before Iannone deposed him into P2. Lorenzo finished the first session in P3.

Early spots of rain proved no real issue for the grid, with Hector Barbera (Avintia Racing) and Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) completing the top five. Championship leader Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) was sixth fastest in a relatively anonymous but solid first session, ahead of Maverick Viñales (Team Suzuki Ecstar), Scott Redding (Octo Pramac Yakhnich) and Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda Team), who had a much improved first session after the difficult Friday suffered by the 3-time world champion in Austria. Aleix Espargaro (Team Suzuki Ecstar) complete the top ten as he fights to recover from a broken finger in Austria.

An exciting wet race. Cal Crutchlow picks up his first win! What a birth gift for Willow. As usual, tire choice was of paramount importance. Those who chose hard options were being ridiculed by the announcers at the start of the race, but they had to eat their words as they're the ones who carved the field on the drying track (minus Lorenzo, who grew desperate too soon). Gotta wonder when Yamaha riders will learn to trust their box. Lorenzo came in to switch to a dry bike, was told to stay on the wet, ignored his crew, and then ended up pitting again to get back on the wet bike.

Only in the wet will you see a top ten like this, with Baz, Laverty, Barbera, Petrucci, and Rabat finishing better than the likes of Pedrosa, Dovizioso, and Lorenzo.

From crash.net:

Cal Crutchlow become the first British rider to win premier-class grand prix since Barry Sheene in 1981!*

The Englishman was as low as 15th in the early stages of the wet race, but later benefited from choosing the hard front and hard rear tyres in spectacular fashion.*

Valentino Rossi likewise struggled on the hard rear in the early stages before climbing back up the order to second place, with Marc Marquez completing the podium in third.*

Ducati riders Andrea Iannone, Andrea Dovizioso and Scott Redding formed the lead group for most of the race. However all three would later suffer problems with the soft front tyre.*

like Rossi, Crutchlow and Loris Baz, reigning champion Jorge Lorenzo also struggled early on with the hard wet rear tyre - but then came into the pits just as they were starting to perform better than the soft.*

The Spaniard left on his slick bike, but - as Bradley Smith had already found out - the track was too wet and Lorenzo soon returned and got back on his wet bike.*

Jack Miller, winner in the wet at Assen, missed his second race in a row due to a hairline fracture of the T6 vertebrae last weekend.*

An official test will be held at the circuit on Monday....*
