1/5 turn throttle? R6 Tube?

Hey guys so I've been playing around with the idea of switching to a quick turn throttle and I remember from my days over at the 1000rr.net and people talking about using the r6 throttle tube as it is bigger and equates to about 1/5 turn instead of a 1/4 turn.

So my question is really, will this work on an 08 600 and for those of you that have made this swap (if anyone has) what year is the throttle tube from the r6?

From what I understand it's only like a 25 dollar part from Yamaha so it seems like a pretty decent and cheap DIY mod that I could do in some spare time.

Any input would be great from you guys/gals!

Idk about the R6 tube, but Yoyodyne sells a quick throttle kit for about $150. It comes with different sized cams. The steepest cam is 1/8 turn. It's wicked.

Yeah I've seen the yoyodyne one before, but then again I'm not looking to spend 150 on it, if the r6 tube will work than 25 is easy for me to throw out for something that will do essentially they same thing.

06-09 R6... apparently the R1 tube will do the trick as well...

As far as I know the 2006-12 R6 throttle tube part# 2C0-26240-00-00 is as quick as you can get for a factory throttle tube.
The slightly slower ratio 2007-12 R1 tube is available under part# 4c8-26240-00-00

I used an 07 r6 tube successfully on my 07 which is effectively identica to your 08.

It was one of the best mods I've done without a doubt. The tube comes with a grip already attached. You might have to slide it over to make your bar end fit.

Highly recommended.

Thanks for the info guys, i'm cheap and didn't realize the R6 throttle worked so i made my own quick turn. I cut a piece of 3/4 inch pvc tube, slit it and glued it around the cable guide part of the throttle tube. Cost me zero dollars and it works great. About 1/7 turn. If i could figure out how to put pictures on hear, i'd show ya.

The smaller the fraction the less wrist movement? example 1/7 requires less turn than 1/5 ...is that the idea?

The R6 tube works in the OEM throttle housing, but you will have to remove some material with a rotory tool like Dremel or other brand. Can't remember if it is the push or pull cable side, but you need to clearance a little for the bigger cam on the R6 tube. One of the first mods I did on all my Hondas: 05 600RR, 08 1000RR, 07 600RR, 09 600RR.

I had to remove ribs on both push and pull sides of the housing. But mine is probably quicker, about 1/7 turn. If R6 throttle is 1/5 turn, isn't that only slightly quicker than stock? I also had to slot the holes for the cable bracket on the throttle bodies to give enough slack to get it all back together.

I have restricted wrist movement from previous injury, used to have to roll the throttle out in my fingers to get full throttle, not ideal for full control of the bike. lol

I wish people would talk in terms of diameter instead of degrees of turn. It can be misleading to some.
Larger cam diameter equals less throttle movement required to get to WOT.

These are the diameters I've found posted on the internet

I got the motionpro from RidersDiscount, gave me the cheapest price. It was a simple install, with the exception of removing the throttle bodies, but I did a write-up which should help you out.

I went this route because it's made for the 600rr.

^ Must have purchased the Revolver kit because you're talking about removing the throttle bodies. Probably another reason for some to just swap throttle tubes.

My homemade quick turn is 43mm diameter, so slightly quicker than the R6 tube, much cheaper though. I'm still trying to figure out how to get pictures on here.

The way I do it is put the image on an external image site. Put the direct link to the image in between image tags [ img] [ /img] without the extra space after the first [

Here is a way to modify the throttle tube to make the diameter bigger.
It just seems awfully Mickey Mouse to me and is something I would never do.

I know the GSX-R boys are saying the R1 tube is a straight drop in for them with no grinding needed. I don't know if it is a drop in for the CBR's.
Like us the GSX-R forum is saying they have to do a little grinding with the R6 tube to get it to work.

all it is, is a small piece of pvc pipe that is filed to the right profile.

heated (w/a heat gun) and fits in the current groove.

did it on dirtbikes a million yrs ago.....

Just tried the Motion Pro throttle tube on a different bike.
(Motion Pro 01-0094 or MP01-0094 - Same diameter as 2007-12 R1 Throttle Tube PT# 4c8-26240-00-00)

I'm not recommending the MP part even if it is 8 bucks shipped.
I was stopped and moving the bike around and I thought I heard something.
Turns out it was the throttle tube making a creaking noise as it flexed a bit.
Because of that it had a cheap feel to it.
I would go back and edit my posts but I guess there's a time limit.

If you want something between the stocker and the quick R6 tube go with the Yamaha 4c8-26240-00-00

At this point I'd probably delete all mention of it.
The flexing and creaking noise made me think the quality was a bit suspect.
Not something I want to be wondering about on a street or track bike.

I have the revolver kit on my bike. I heard a noise but it was the adjustment screws rubbing the bottom of the top triple. Could that have been what you heard or should I look closer into my throttle?

No such rubbing on this stock set up.
The Revolver is a totally different animal. I wouldn't be suspect with that "KIT" as there are many many racers and track day riders who've proved it's worth.

OK somehow I saw Motion Pro and revolver popped in my head. I've not had issues but if it makes my bike go or stop I want to make sure it works. Thanks for the reply.

Well I took that Motion Pro throttle tube out yesterday.

I got out my calipers and measured the MP tube against the OEM R1 tube & OEM R6 tube to satisfy my curiosity.
The R1 & R6 tube measurements were virtually identical except for cam diameter.

Strike 1. The area of the MP tube where the grip rides is thinner making it flex more. I squeezed both tubes and sure enough the MP compressed easier.
Strike 2. The inside diameter where it slides over the bar is bigger making it a little sloppier moving up and down more.
Strike 3. The throttle cam thickness (area that rides inside the throttle housing) is thinner making it sloppier moving back and forth more.
(I also measured the throttle cams diameter and it is just a shade smaller than the OEM R1 but nothing that you would notice)
None of the measurements were greatly different but they added up to flex and slop so it's outta here.

I replaced it with the OEM R1 tube and the difference was instantly noticeable.

Reviving an old thread..
I also looked into replacing my throttle tube.
The Yamaha OEM part #2C0-26240-00-00 is the way to go..

The Motion Pro part #01-0094 (r6 oem replacement) has a smaller cam based off the r6s and <05 r6 so avoid that one.
