So are you guys ok with cutting holes in your OEM fairings for cut frame sliders? I'm really digging the Womet Tech sliders but damn I don't wanna cut holes in my OEM fairings
If you want them then go for it. Personally I don't use frame sliders. Depending on how you go down, they can either save you a little, or cost you a lot.
Sharpen a screw on the head put it in where the frame slider goes, put fairing back on give it a good hit, and you got yourself a center punch to ream up.
I used a laser.Align it with the bolt that the frame slider goes into put your fairings back on with the laser still aligned with the bolt use cup saw to drill hole. Worked great for me.
I was worried to, especially when the hole saw bites and jerks the drill. However they turned out pretty well. esp hard is the 07 with the half moon cut out.
Yeah mine is an 08 and will require the exact same cut. Which seems like it'll make it a lot trickier. I'm definitely going to pull the trigger on a set of Womet Tech sliders, just don't know when I'll actually man up and install them haha. Gonna have to get a hole saw bit. What size did you use for your 07 cut?
I just bought a woodcraft set, waiting for it to arrive in the mail. While waiting, i got prepared by buying a 2" hole saw with a guiding drill bit. I had old scratched up fairings from my old 2005 600rr and i used the hole saw to do trial runs on it before i do it on my 2013 fairing. Got to say its way easier than i thought and is came out pretty well!!
Couple of things i read by other who have done it before. Make sure you use painters tape on the outside so it doesnt remove the stickers on the fairing, and go from the outside in( not vice versa for cleaner exterior look) and go slowly so it doesnt over heat the fairing.
Did these three things on my trial run and it came out looking professional, as if it came cut from the factory. Hope it turns out the same when I do actual one on my bike.
Good luck!
I just did a 2.5" hole saw on fiberglass and it cut right threw. I got woodcraft i prolly should have gotten a 2 3/8 hole saw the 2.5 was pretty large but its got some wiggle room now so hopefully wont do anymore damage to the fairings when i go down..
Took me about 10 mins start to finish lol. I certainly didn't use a laser just eye balled it even on my oem fairings. A little 1/8th hole to get a mark for the hole saw and a dremel to clean up the hole... putting the new bolts in tho what a pita i need impact. Way to much turning a rachet lol
The thing about the Womet Tech sliders is they should come with a template for cutting your fairings in the right spot. Well that's more of a TST thing I guess, not really Womet Tech. Gonna do their engine crash cover too, not because I think I'll need it, but because it'll look cool with the matching sliders.
Honestly, just get case savers. They won't protect fairings, but you won't risk them grabbing on the pavement and flipping the bike in the air in the event of a low side.
A stunt cage would do better to protect fairings, but again, grabbing and flipping may occur.
I do, when you bin it. I crashed at 100+ this weekend and the only damage was a scratched vortex rear spool slider, woodcraft case cover, vortex frame slider, and broken windscreen (was China, broke from flex). Buying good quality stuff is worth it 10x over.
oh sorry ....2" sliders so I used a 2 1/8 bit . A sharp hole saw was blowing through the after market abs too fast and cutting too quickly. I went from inside out as the jumping around of bit even with a guide bit was too scary and once it cuts a channel it holds the bit better. I even spun the drill backwards toward the end to ease it through gently. good luck
So I got my Womet Tech sliders today, which BTW, did not come with a cutout to show you where to cut, it basically just says to eyeball it ? But anyway when I went to remove the no cut Shogun sliders I noticed that once they're removed there's a big ass gap between the frame and the engine threads that the bolt goes to. And I don't seem to have the space that I assume it came with from the factory. Any suggestions. The picture shows the Shogun still installed, just imagine the Shogun is removed and you'll see the big ass gap I'm talking about.
Correct, there is a simple spacer that fits in there that is on the stock bike. You could ask to see if anyone has these lying around, and I'm sure ebay has a bunch of these pulled from wrecks.
Yeah defiantly gonna need that spacer. Its a motor mount bolt after all. One consolation. Your new Cut sliders will be a cleaner installation than that one. Maybe stacking washers would suffice.
I wouldn't *not* use the OEM spacers; that connection is part of the load bearing of the frame to engine, in that the frame is meant to twist slightly. A big stack of steel washers is going to be different than the Al spacer.
Thanks for all the replies guys. Very helpful. What is the name of the two washers? Any links to where I can buy them? Seems like it'd be a difficult part to find.
You sir, are a gentleman and a scholar. I shall knight you and grant you lands, titles and wenches. The bards will sing ballads of your accomplishments.
So I got my part in today. At first I was super pissed because they only sent me one collar. I was under the impression from the wording on their site that they were sold in pairs. Well they aren't and I paid $15 for shipping for a $2 part. So as I'm holding the part in my hand I decide that since I now know what it looks like I'd check my part box (box of oem stuff that came with the bike when I bought it) just one more time and see if I had it. And low and behold I actually did have one haha. So now I have two. It's way too hot here today in Mississippi to put it on though. Gonna have to wait till either tonight or tomorrow early.
Well boys I finally took the plunge and installed the cut sliders. Looks much better than before and the cuts I made came out just right. Only thing that kinda sucks is the previous no cut sliders I had on rubbed some of the paint off on the right side of the bike. Anyway to get some touch up paint or something?
Oh and I was also able to lay a ramp down at my back door and roll my bike into my laundry room. Which just so happens to have a badass window A/C unit in it. So no more sweating while I work on my bike from now on hahahaha. Gonna put new brake pads on all the way around sometime soon.
Thank you sir. Is this available directly from Honda?
