I wanted to share a simple, easy, and extremely affordable mod with everyone. I purchased a Sharpie oil based paint pen(ultra fine point) from Wal-mart for like $2.68. Painted the lettering on my tires to add some contrast to an all black bike, and it looks rad!
Take your time. Oh, and a second application looks best.
Why chain the bike by the tire? It's so easy to change the tire and run off for a thief. Just curious because it seems so many people hook from there. Why not run it through the opening in the swing arm in which case they'll either have to cut the swing arm or cut the chain.
Ha ha ha true; It did take a little bit. I supposed I should divulge that I did take on the task on a Saturday evening with a cup of tea, and a newly created playlist.
Lmao it seems TheX hates cosmetic mods and pretty bikes. See as far as TheX is concerned, if you're not spending all your $$ on track days and gear, you're doing it wrong.
Not to speak for him (or even defend him) but what I think he tries to get across is far too many people spend thousands of dollars on red anodized this, shiny reservoir deletes, slipper clutches, quick shifters, Daniese jackets and other fancy crap but don't actually know how to ride their bike with any resemblance of skill.
These same people say the same thing over and over: "I can't afford to go to a track day" or "I can't afford new tires or decent insurance" but are installing an Akrapovic pipe on their bike and Driven grips which does nothing to make the bike ride or handle any better and in most cases has a negative effect. Not that this type of rider would really notice, riding up and down Main Street with their matched jacket, way too much color matching bolt on crap, perfectly clean bike attempting wheelies trying to impress the little girls while putting on 1,200 miles a year.......
Many of us been there, done that, riders try to get across to newbies that actually getting on the bike and riding it as designed in an environment where you don't have to worry about traffic, stupid people or other outside factors can make your rides from there on out dramatically improve and does far more than any Chinese aluminum lever can ever do to your bike.
Trust me, I get annoyed by his attention whoring as much as anyone does (do some searching, I'm quite vocal about it), it's just he does speak the truth a lot of times if you listen. He is just far less elegant than some would like in getting his point across.
So? People do to their bikes what they want, they ride it the way they want.
Hell, how many bikes are sitting in a garage, living room or a museum as a collector's item without being ridden at all?
You can't tell ppl how they should or shouldn't spend their well earned money. You can only say if you'd do it different or not.
For me, I might call for the **** storm and actually do this
Which is fine. But he (and others) are entitled to their opinion as much as you (and others) are. Flame all you want but it's a public forum; you post a "mod" of painting your tire letters (which there is a specific tire paint made for this, been done before) and someone isn't impressed, don't be surprised.
I've been wanting to do this myself, on both the car and the bike. But then I look at my michelins (in both cases) and say "ain't nobody got time for that"
