Newb Already Looking For Troubleshooting Advice

Hey guys...2012 CBR600RR...new...all black. I have added the Honda Racing CF tank and cowl kit and tank pads along with a set of ASV Shorties. Future (as in this week) will be smoked flush mounts, rear set, puig cf screen, FE and full Ti Akrapovic exhaust.

I have 1700 miles on her and I already have a problem . It was sounding rough and would have what sounded like valve tick as the RPMs elevated. Then, around the block my PGM-FI (amber engine) light came on. I shut it down and walked it back to the house. Started it up 15 minutes later. No light but sounds like ass. Shop came by and picked it up and they say that the bike is running and sounding fine. The light was intermittent but the noise was constant. I am thinking faulty camshaft position sensor but who knows. Its under warranty but it sounds like the shop is going to fiddle with it and kick it back to me. Thanks everyone

Welcome to dot net. Try posting in the Troubleshooting section, no many people look into the New Members section. lol

Good luck with your issue, I would keep bugging the dealer. Maybe record the noise and FI light. Have you done the kickstand thing to check for codes?

A response! LOL. I dont know of the kickstand trick but I will search for it. The light came on again as I filled up 3/4 from completely empty...I exited the station and gunned it. Looked down and the light was on. Restarted the bike and the light was gone. The dealer said that they cant do anything since the lght isnt a on all the time. No codes were found both times. Guess I will have to break it hard :( I am hesitant since the noise isnt a good thing. It sounds like a CPS and if thats the case...I dont want internal damage...

Next you notice the FI light go on do this:

This should cause the FI light to come on for a few seconds then go off. This means the diagnostic system is working properly.

- now put down your kickstand.

This should cause the FI light to blink. Record the number of long and short blinks. This is your error/diagnostic code. Record the code at least twice, because if more than one error is found it will blink the codes in order from lowest to highest then repeat.

Hopefully this should work and guide us in the right direction.

Once you have the code(s) you can either look it up in the service manual or search the forum.

hey make the fi light go on in the first couple of hundred miles just to see if you are paying attention. if you miss it, they have grounds to dismiss the warrantee. if you see it, they let the techs at the shop drag race it for a day then send it back to you saying it sounds fine........
