about a week ago i dropped my bike at work(very slippery pavement). i need to decide whether i should go to insurance and have them fix it or should i just pay for it myself? i dunno if i gotta pay a deductable... i think mine is a 500$ one. so do i have to pay for 50$ of it? also, i have a dealership down here. if there is any mark on any part will they just replace it?also, do they go by the price the dealership gives them?(retail price) cuz i have these things wrong with it.

scratched-
right mirror
right clutch cas cover
right passenger peg
right turn signal
rear brake lever
right mid fairing
rear/tail fairing
right bar end thing
front brake lever
and i think the lower right fairing is also a little messed up but not really sure.

(i might get them on this but i am not sure) when i got it from the dealer the rider seat had a big scuff on it, and the plastic piece right below it on the right has a minor mark... maybe get them to fix that even thought the dealer said they would replace it someday and i dont really care if it fixed cuz i wanna get a corbin seat anywayz.

well, if you guys have any input at all please let me know. thanks.

Well the cost of the parts alone is alot more than your deductable. If you don't mine paying about twice as much then I would pay for it and leave the insurance out of the picture. Your rate will go up the next time you renew it if you open a claim

so, i will have to pay the full deductable? that blows! maybe i should find other little things wrong with the bike so they can fix it too. i can ruin my fender thingy(license plate thing) cuz i will be getting rid of it real quick. hmm... i will not use the money to fix my bike though... i am only gonna fix the right mid fairing. anyways thanks for the input.

If you go to insurance they will replace EVERYTHING that has even the slightest ware on it...they have to...

If you choose not to go that route and wanna fix it up yourself I have a right - mid for sale for $190 shipped if you want it... I bought it from Bell's Honda and ended up just running my rashed one since I have been running a lot of track lately...let me know if you want it. (if you go insurance it'll cost about $220 from the dealer to replace...they run MSRP for that kinda stuff)

yea my dealer is 270 for it. very pricey dealer :???: i will consider buying that mid off you depending on what i do. that may be the only part i replace cuz it is the most noticable.

remember if you use your ins. to they will bump up your monthly cost next year. at least i have seen them do that to me last time i used my ins. good luck with your bike

Don't go through insurance unless you cannot AFFORD to fix it yourself.

Fixing it yourself is ALWAYS the better value. Period.

If you can afford to fix it yourself, then do so. Whatever money your insurance company puts out to fix your bike, they will make back by raising your rates. In fact, by the time your rates drop back to normal, the average person pays over 3 times the amount to fix the bike.

Go on eBay and find lightly used parts. Go to the preferred vendors on this site to buy new parts below MSRP. If you go to the dealer, they will charge you full MSRP prices for everything--but most of the time they will replace your parts with used parts anyway...things they think they can get away with. Shops make a fortune off of insurance work. It's their bread and butter.

You pay the full 500 dollar deductable, to pay several thousand dollars down the line. If you are going to get raped like that, it might as well be in prison for something you did that was worth it.

Uh, yeah.... insurance fraud is real cool.
