Those without garages.
What do you do to protect your bike against the elements? Where I live we dont get anything but like 3 months of rain for winter, so my main concern would be water and mold. I have been looking at bike covers, and was curious if anybody had any suggestions for a cover. I was also considering one of those little tarp garages, like a 10x10 for $100.

I rode it to my boys house and cleaned it, left it for a few days in his garage, then took it back, repeat the process as frequently as possible. Thats what i did. Your idea sounds good man, but dont let that thing blow away and knock your bike over or scratch it up.
Oh yeah, and Honda polish every 2 days.

I dont have a garage. I put my bike in a shed. Its perfect. Its covered, protected from rain, snow, etc.

you need to find a covered parking area as soon as possible. if you just rely on a cover, your bike is going to get pooped on like mine. if it rains there like it rains here, youll come back from riding and chill inside for like an hour, then go outside to find it raining like a mother f*cker! good covers will hold up, but you will get tired of takingit of and putting it on and so on and so forth. you will get complasent and forget to cover it over night, then the hail storm hits. if you have somewhere to park it that is already covered, its a load of your mind. thats why its benifits to live on the first floor. park it in your room

I use a covermax cover. mold free, water proof, and UV-A/B Resistant.
works good. got it from NewEnough.com.

this is what I would go with, i would find a way to anchor it down incase it were to get windy or put it on the side of your house so only one side is exposed.

IMO, a storage bin or somebody allows you to use their garage. Leaving the bike outside, the elements are not the only negatives. IMO again, leaving a late model sportbike out in the open, is just a matter of time before it is stolen.
I have read too many stories of "my bike is gone".
I would pull the bike in my living room or kitchen before I leave it outside..
Again, just my old opinion.. :)

What would happen if you leave it out and dry up by itself? i live on base and there is nothing there to protect it.

Try renting a storage unit.

If it's outside in the elements (In The Bay Area of California) Don't worry about the elements, It will get stolen before the brake discs have a chance to rust.

I moved to an apartment complex that had garages...
But damn that bike barn looks like the best possible solution for now. Unless you have a great friend that doesn't mind letting you use some of his garage space.

When I lived in WI, I stored my 900RR in either a climate controlled storage unit or in my apartment.

Not a bad idea. A climate controlled one would be better. I am glad I don't have this problem.
