my hands are to big to fit in between the headers and oil filter to get a grip on my '04, is there an easier way.
going to pick up some channel locks to give those a shot.
all i did on mine was put the right-side lower fairing down a little without taking it off, just the front part of it, so i could get to it. i couldnt get the oil filter off between the headers either.
This gets asked alot. Of course the easiest way is with a nut at the end of the filter. But the OEM filters I get that isnt an option. What I do is..This gonna sound nuts. When the bike is up on the stands lay on your back facing the front wheel so your head is by the foot peg. You can then extend your arm and get your hand in between the bottom of the header and a good grip on the filter. You dont need to torque the hell out of them either. Spin it on until it resists and then go another quarter turn. Thats all you need.
I purchased this >> http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_02820520000P?prdNo=5&blockNo=5&blockType=G5
years ago cuz I always do the oil changes on all my vehicles, also do the oil changes on my friends (girls) and my family cars. I use it ALL the time. I don't like the straight one you bought, this one is angled and it' helps but for your bike the straight one ya got will work.
:+1:thats not the exact one i bought, its just a generic photo i found on google, mine has a slight curve to it and it was only $10. but it works like a charm!
when i bought my 2005 cbr, i couldn't get the oil filter off, because it was somehow rusted..
so i just took a screwdriver and and hammered it into the oil filter an used the screwdriver as a lever...got a little messy, but it got the job done...
so on a 2005 model in extreme cases i can replace the filter without removing any fairings, but its easier to remove the bottom fairing.
