Looking at a track bike...opinions?

Looking for opinions from the experts on a track bike that I plan on picking up this weekend. It's from a dealer that I know and trust to be straight-up with me. In fact, it's his race bike.

It's going to be a track-day only bike for me....hoping to finally get out there after 15-ish years on the street.

I have opinions from some experienced track-day gurus and my local speed-shop. Both say go for it.

I'd like to get some from the guys who really know 600rr's, so please let me know what you think. I can grab it for $3,500.

Here are the details from the seller:

Low speed low side in T1 @ summit point. scratched up right side engine case (have new one in a bag), and bar end. The pea gravel was able to slightly buckshot my levers/master cylinder, but no real damage to the bike. No damage to frame, subframe, forks, or triple trees. Sharkskinz bodywork was scratched up. I do have new E-racing bodywork on bike (never dropped with those) and would give you all spare parts to go along with the bike. GPR damper on the bike. Penske 3-way adjust rear shock. Forks redone with ohlins internals.

2005 CBR600rr for sale
Completely clear and clean title (no rebuild or salvage)
Aprox. 4300 miles and one small lowside ever, guaranteed!!
Full HRC Arrow Exhaust
PCIII USB + Ignition Module
BMC filter
Vortex Rearsets
GPR stabilizer
E-Racing Fairings on bike (new condition)
Spare full set of SharkSkinz (100% usable, but scratched up)
Set of spare rims w/takeoffs mounted
New Honda rotors purchased and put on one set of rims approx. 2 months ago
Yoyo Dyne slipper clutch
Other Misc Spare Parts (used rotors, clutch cover, bars, etc.)
Penske 3way adjust rear shock
Ohlins Internals in forks
520 conversion, Vortex sprockets, did chain
104.8 hp. on factory Dyno @ ASRA National Round
119 hp on DynoJet 250

I don't have all the stock bodywork to make it street legal.

Thanks!

That a sweet deal... The only thing you'd probably have to do is re-sping the shock and forks, and you have a killer track-bike...

With the slipper clutch, spare set of wheels, etc... Where's my check book...

Well, hopefully the suspension will hold for a few track days. We're close to the same weight, so that's a plus.

The partout from that bike alone would be at a minimum $5k. As long as the bike is clean and legit I say go for it.

And probably have them serviced while you're at it....

Got back late last night after a 6hr round trip.

I got up this morning and started pulling her apart/going through the parts. Some good stuff, lots of junk. The extra set of wheels has good rotors and tires on it.

It shouldn't take much to get ready for track-days. The shocks were rebuilt recently. I'm going to clean it, then go over the nuts and bolts, replace some clamps, and take it to my local race shop for a once-over.

Planning on painting both sets of plastics, color TBD. The Sharkskinz need a bit of reconditioning, but I think they'll come out ok. All the tabs are good. The E-Racing's just need to be prepped and painted.

Thanks! I tried, but they were too big. I'll have to re-size and get back to ya!

Nice looking bike and an even better sounding deal that you got on it too.

Now all we need is for the next pictures to be of the bike (and you) on a podium at a nearby track.

Enjoy your new ride..

Podium? Maybe after the track has closed lol. This one is purely a track-day tool now.

Thanks for the good wishes. :-)

M&M, That looks like a sic deal. I am jealous of your bike, as well as your work area and craftsman tool set/case. I don't have a track bike yet, my tools are all over my basement, and I don't have a work area (more like a work corner BOOO!!)

Congrats on the deal. I hope to find something similar in a month or two.C6r

Thanks CBR6. I hope the bike works out.

As for the tool case, it's not a set lol...just a bunch of tools that my dad has passed down over the years. I got the case a few years ago as a b-day gift from my wife, but only finally got it set up last week. Still need to get the organizers someday, but at least the tools aren't in drawers all over the house!

The workspace will be set up someday too. My parents are getting ready to move down here near us, so as you can see in the background it has become a storage space for friends and family.

Here she is.....took her to Speedwerks for a going over.

New:

- Paint (still deciding on decals)
- Windscreen
- Chain and front sprocket
- Tires (put a set of rain tires on the spare wheels)
- Hose junction on the radiator
- Gas cap
- Frame sliders. Pretty cool...the caps unscrew and you can put caps on that have a hole for tie-downs.
- New fasteners, misc zip ties, etc......

looks great dude.. and you got a great deal on this bike especially with all the spares.

I dont even want to know how many more thousands I spent to get the same stuff on my 07...

By the way, what sliders are those that have the attachments for straps?

Thanks for the compliments guys! Can't wait for my first track day!

The sliders are called Euro Sliders. Here they are on the Yoyodine website: http://www.yoyodyneti.com/Category.aspx?CategoryID=2943

Mine are like the last pic on the bottom right except that the aluminum on the tie down cap is coated in ceramic.

Give Steve a call at speedwerks.com. Great guy. They had some in stock a few days ago.

Tell him you're looking for the ones like he just put on Mike's 600.
