Hit a Deer today on my Bike

Went riding today for the first time in a week or so. Was doing a loop that was about 300 miles with a bunch of buddies. I was the only crotch rocket everyone else was on harley's. I was on a good canyon road and took off in front of everyone. Was cruising around highway speeds of 55ish and a deer ran out in front of me. I had just come around a corner and was on a straight away when he ran out from the trees. My first reaction was to grab the break but it was about 200 feet away from me when it ran out. I realized I was not going to be able to safely stop so I let off the gas and brake and squared up to the deer. I hit the deer at almost full speed. I hit him just behind his front legs launched him around 200 feet from the point I impacted her. She was nearly cut in half there is a stomach and intestines in the middle of the road. The heart was on the other side of the road from the deer. I DIDN'T lay the bike down. I went back to my dirtbike days and sat on top of the bike while it got squirrelly under me and made sure the front wheel was pointed in the right direction. I came to a stop and all my buddies came up on what looked like a murder scene. The only thing that happened to me was what feels like a sprained ankle. I was fully geared up after reading some horror stories on this site. I had my alpinestar supertech r's on and even with them on the deer folded around my front end so hard it sprained my ankle. If anyone has seen or tried on those boots they know they are not just beginner boots. The outside where the deer hit is almost fully plastic and there is an inner booty inside. Without the boot I know it would have been way worse than it turned out. The only explanation I have is someone is looking out for me. The bike is beat up but luckily I have full coverage. Thank you Jason for hooking me up with great gear and thank you to 600rr.net for sharing your stories and scaring me into wearing my gear at all times. If you get anything from this it's to always suit up fully even if it's just to get gas.

P.S. my lucky ass went and bought some lotto tickets today! Felt like it would be a shame to not buy one if I have this much luck running through me.

Glad you're ok.

They should really move the deer crossing sign.

Glad you made it through dude, ATGATT wins again. Too bad for the dear, they really should invest in some sort of fencing, I understand it would be expensive but we are talking about peoples' lives here. Can you elaborate on what you mean by sitting on top of the bike, apparently this was a primary contributor in keeping your bike upright after such a strong collision. Your fairings are......damn.

I think he meant he rode out the speed wobble after the initial impact from the deer. Glad you're okay man. Ride safe!

Glad you're safe man. ATGATT. Speedy recovery for you and the bike and keep on wearing that gear. It's a good reminder for everyone else on here.

Is that **** on your chain guard? From you or the deer? Lol. Good job on keeping it upright, could have been way worse!

Deer are one of the few things that I actually fear while riding, we have a lot of them in the hill country.

Your luck is in the fact that she was so small. Glad you're ok, it could have been way worse. After my accident, I cringe when I see people wearing tennis shoes on a bike.

I've seen deer jump some pretty insane fences, they're impressive.

I think he may have meant that he stood on his pegs and lifted his bum off the seat and let the bike wobble below him, like in motocross.

Glad your ok though dude! Good luck getting the bike put together again

Nice job on keeping the bike up. Makes the strong wind/sand in the corner excuses look pretty weak.

I would think "on top of the bike" means he sat up straight, probly scooted his butt back a little, and had the bike straight up, ready for impact. If he would have swerved to miss it he might have ran off the road and crashed any way. And maybe also hit the deer. Good job keeping it up.
