Tribal
Take a deep breath and relax man no one is accusing you of anything after knowing what I know now I would say do not register this bike yet because if its impounded you will be loosing all the fees you paid hand over copies of all the documents you have to the local police & pass all the information you have on the seller to the local police and let them do their check up hopefully the bike will come back clean but it does not look good at this point I am sorry bro

Look at the bright side you might think I am crazy to mention these words but you know what there is a bright side you did not get arrested or thrown in jail even though you did nothing wrong except buy a motorcycle that was stolen and they could have charged you with possession of stolen property so do not get discouraged yet it could have been worse

Depends if I was payed out already for my loss,, and if I had spent the money on a new bike.

Does anyone else find it kinda weird that thieves went to the trouble of tampering with the vin(butchering it to the point most would call the cops if a guy tried to sell us it) normally its off to the chop shop and gone. Less heat involved. I also don't know why you'd have to change a vin if a bikes from another country and has no vehicle history in the states. And where did they get a valid vin # from to stamp on a stolen frame. Insurance companies can match your exact vehicle model with the vin# and if it's off they should notice its not right.

Just because the registration is payed through for a certain period of time, you still need to go get the registration put in your name when you purchase a vehicle. They probably ran your plates and the vehicle comes back with all the previous owners information.

If I was selling insurance I would make sure to have the vehicle inspected by me and match the vin number with the title or the registration I got in my hand any insurance agent with a slight brain would have noticed that the numbers in this case do not match , would have refused to put a policy on such bike and should have advised the bike's owner to get the police involved right away .

I thought this was a simple registration mismatch that made them think it might be stolen, but after seeing that vin, I can see why they are suspicious.

I don't really have any useful advise after seeing the Vin, other than try to keep your cool. Clear minds always prevail. Sounds like some of the guys on here might have some good ideas. Be careful and good luck sir. I will send some positive thoughts your way. I really hope it works out for you and it was a weird mix up...

OP this is my vin and it probably looks alot like everyone else on here...

op do u have a form of contact from the seller? do you have a bill of sale? at the least the frame is owned by someone. if it was stolen and "fixed" that owner can press charges if it was wreck and insurance payed off, it belongs to that company. so yes ur screwed unless you can prove no ill intent...

This case proves how critical it is to match vin plate with the vin printed on the bike's title and listen up people if you are buying a used bike inspect that plate if the vin plate looks messed up in any way shape or form walk away & if you see more than one bike in the sellers garage with parts every where call the cops on the way home and tell them your story you never know a thief might get taken off the streets

oh op and anyone sayin "cops are bashing an innocent moto kid" people complain about speeding they patrol highways and people b*tch and say go get real criminals. and in this case they roll up on a very very obvious tampered with bike, and they are in the wrong, they are doin their job... oh this cop rides every day by the way so his advice is very neutral

Always my pleasure bro this family of ours stick together this thread is a prime example of that hopefully the outcome will be a positive one specially if the seller that sold this bike to tribal gets prosecuted and would be a double blessing if tribal does not loose his hard earned money

Next time you decide to buy a used bike run the vin thru this link before giving up one red cent

Seriously, I would be a bit scared if Honda was that sloppy with anything on the bike.

the only thing im a little lost on, and i guess its different for every state, but can the cali guys fill me in on this whole registration issue?

how is it possible that you can have a title and insurance on a bike, but not actually register the bike to your name? doesnt the insurance company need a valid registration?

and even if you were to get insurance, if your using the PO's registration, wouldnt a cop or anyone running the bikes plate, come up with the PO's info?

i would have thought that would have been an already weird thing for the police to see

but like i said, i dont know if things are different in cali...sorry for your troubles though, i hope for the best

dude get the thing registered and the vin number fixed, if that still needs to happen. then contact the officer and ask him to put the requirement to bring it in in writing, be very nice to him and explain you completed the registration in the meantime and that you need to understand if you still need to bring it in.

dotn leave your bike with them unless they have a warrent. take it in for them to inspect, but leave with the bike when you do. tell them nicely you only have 30 minutes.

Yeah no at first I thought the cops were picking on me. Then after speaking extensively through/to moeman. I have come to the conclusion they are just doing their job. The CHP came to my families house and spoke to my family. The Officer in charge gave me a call told me " Your not in trouble. your a good kid. you were mislead and uninformed. Just help us with all the info you can on him."
Of course, I want to see him punished and possibly my bike/money back. So I cooperated fully lol. I' am hoping for the best. The thing they think is that PARTS of my bike are off of insurance claims "Insurance theft" like when you claim a bike is totaled then part out the bike. I might get to keep it is what I'm hoping for. If not I got 2k lying around. I'll wave that in a dealers face, and they might work with me a little bit ya know?

Also: Seriously the thank you button isn't adequate for the above and beyond that MoeMan has done/shown me. I owe you bro I really do. I appreciate everything you have done for me. Your a good guy, No one has ever showed me that much help or compassion for my cause. I appreciate that A lot I really do. You are one honorable man, if the world had more people like you. It would seriously be one kick ass place. And I truly do mean that. Thank you bro! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Two steps ahead of you. Calling in tomorrow at 9 am. Cycle gear at 10 am picking up new head phones (skull candy FTW on sale!) filling it up at this place that has 100 octane. Then tearing SHITUPALLDAY!!!!!!!!!

Shitty things about this: Just got/installed my new exhaust about a week ago.
Just got my -1/+2 sprockets in on friday. Was gonna have SuSuCBR help me put them on. Meh :(

Thanks for the concern Moeman

well, not to thread jack lol, but Im from Belleville, right next to Newark, so we got hit of course but not nearly as bad as the places you listed, basicly for my area, besides power loss, it was only slightly worse than usual, still flooded right along the passaic river. but for my area water wasnt really the issue.. the massive winds were, lots of power lines down, big trees ripped completely out of the ground, roots dirt and all..

im not quite sure why exactly, but the transformers were exploding all over, me and my brother walked outside to see, and at least once a minute if not more, you could see blue lights illuminate the sky as they blew up, i think i high voltage power line went down somewhere by me because i saw the sky light up super bright white then glow orange...but at least from what i saw we were very very lucky....most places by me have power back already

however as you listed, not sure if their showing the pictures on the news or telling of the extensive damage on the west coast, but seaside has been obliterated.....the piers were basically washed to sea, that entire area was pretty much demolished, the boardwalk at point pleasant is gone. at least half of manhattan had flooding, hobooken also had extensive flooding, my one friend who lives right near the river said he cant go back for like 5 weeks, LBI was almost reclaimed... my friend who lives in staten island said they were hammered too, a quote from what he said on my other forum " One house, about 3 blocks away from me, was knocked off its foundation and taken out sea, killing most of the people living in it...an oil tanker washed up on shore on the north shore of Staten Island.."

oh also, i forget the name of the place, but their was a gas main break that they couldnt even reach because of the damage, and i heard on the radio that it was just burning for hours

and thats just from what ive seen or heard

i think really the most difficult thing now after its over, is the gas issues, over 40% of the stations in nj alone are not operational which makes it extremely difficult to get gas, stations have huge lines and nj just reimplemented the 70's evens/ odds rules for gas to try to ease the lines...of course it doesnt help that stations hiked up the prices by at minimum 60 cents a gallon

ill post pictures if you guys havent really seen the damage, but most things you can really just see by googling it

just sucks and i feel for the people that were really affected by it.
