i figured it out....i was assuming that the sheet could be turned 90 degrees based on the pre cut shape of the sheet (rectangle). It turns out that to get the desired effect I needed to turn it 45 degrees and then cut out my rectangles for the guages. I was using the corners and edge of the sheet for nice straight edges, but really i should have turned it 45 degrees first. :)
when you apply the film, if your screen background -when not lit - (used to be whiteish/gray color) is now purpleish and not jet black, then you will probably have the same problem i did.
so if i have white back with black numbers and i put the film over it, it will reverse so i have black back with white numbers?

^ Yes.
You're gonna need to take off the old film and replace it with the new one.

Yeah, I'm wondering if it does need to be put on at any particular angle? I currently have my dash pulled off and apart and trying to get the stupid system to hopefully reset the damn tach needle. So, while I have everything apart I'm going to add the polarizing film. Angle, yes, no? Should it look any different once it's applied and there's nothing displayed as it's off?

Yes you have to make sure the polarized film is on at the right angle. Just keep turning the film to get the right look to reverse the colors. While hovering the film over your lcd.
This is great, I just ordered my leds for the color change this week. And I was wondering how everyone was blacking it out. One question though, I keep hearing about you need to desolder the tac ne pics of that would be great. On another note I found some leds from eBay n Hong Kong a 100 white for 3.50 and 100 blue for 3.50. So for 7 bucks ill test them out and see how they are. If they pass inspection I will use them. If any one needs some for their own color change blue and white you can have some. I'll send ya some for free. There only a handfull of led manufacturer's n the world so we'll see how they measure up.

I'll cover that in the video that I'm doing over the weekend.

Are they surface mount LEDs? Remember, you won't be able to use through-hole LEDs here. I only ask because surface mount LEDs are usually a little more expensive than that.

Yeah they are the smd plcc2 led. I know that's why I couldn't believe it. So for 7 bucks I snatched them up. I've done my research on the leds. They are the same ones. Just don't know what the heck I'm going to do with 200 of these leds. Lol

those plcc2 led's are a bit tricky to solder. Very tedeous.. Just make sure you don't drink to much caffeine before your going to be doing this project. LOL. And you should resell the ones you don't use.....
Hell for $7 bucks. I'll give them away for free if any one on here needs some. I'll even pay shipping to the U.S. lol. I'll have blue and white. It will take a few weeks for me to get them though. Coming from Hong Kong. I'm going to order the through hole leds for the pegs and subframe.
Did anyone end up finding the adhesive backed film?

Whatever link I clicked on earlier led me to a place with no adhesive backed film.
Just got my order finished and I'm stoked to get this done.
^I might hit you up for some of those LED's man!

oldschool if ya want some send me a pm. Just remember it going take a few weeks for me to get them. I had this planned out for the week of xmas for me to do this mod. I got the week off. And it will be the dead of winter, so no riding. if your not in a hurry then great. When I get them I'm going to test them out and make sure they are good ones.
For those that are waiting for the instruction video of how to black out the LCD display, I'm done with the install and doing the video editing now. Should have it up in a day or two.

What did you think difficulty wise? Did you do the color change at the same time? Trying to decide if I should tackle this or send it off.
I did do the color change at the same time. Doing the LCD blackout was pretty easy, but changing the LEDs requires some skill. You need a very fine tip for your soldering iron, otherwise you're going to end up burning the plastic housing of the LED. If you don't have any soldering experience I would recommend getting someone else to do it for you. The LCD blackout you can do yourself.
Wow I just got my leds from Hong Kong. These things are small as Hell. Lol. It was really fast to get them I was surprised. Did buy it now on 10-30 and received today 11-7. They all check out and are good to go. If any one wants to do this mod and want blue and white I have plenty for free. Just pm me. Thanks to cbroman for the how to.
