I have a bell vortex in large matte black i loved it but as im starting to do track days next season, needed an upgrade, bought a rs-1 emblem white from revzilla just 30 minutes ago! So excited! I bought a medium since the vortex was a tad large and at high speeds 100 it would start to lift.
Bell helmets are great and i dont regret my purchase at all of both the vortex or the rs1 being snell 2010 approved, they may not have the arai reputation but bell is a huge name in helmets all around.
One down side is my magnet strap did break, the weave that holds the magnet in the strap broke and my magnet luckliy was attached to the strap so i didnt lose it and some tape and bam my ghetto fix haha
Dnt get mad for going 100 we all have gone that fast at one time of our lives, i dnt do it much just when i feel its safe.
I dont mind paying for gear, ill pay top dollar for the best, even if that means i cant buy my akraprovic exhaust for another year. Gear prevents injuries, mods do not. Is as i see it.

I love them too much.
I got a Bell Vortex - definitely LOUD. Taping off the small vents behind ears helped a lot but it's still loud and not very comfy. Ventilation is good
Yea I saw the thread on closing up the vents next to the ear area. Plan on doing that right away. Itfelt really goof at the shop, so hopefully the same when I wear it on rides. One day I'll get another Arai, but monies must go elsewhere at the moment.

No shite, funny how people say things like that and then that's the only gear they wear. Granted from experience more expensive helmets are better (to me) on comfort a regulation helmet is still better than one that is not. That guys comment would have caused me to longer going their.

Plus I don't do track days anymore (too much travel with new job) so all my riding now is on the street and I heard good things about the Vortex as a street helmet. Hopefully I'll enjoy it.
Do any of you with a Vortex feel as if the outer shell is overly large and makes you look like a bobblehead?

I DO! The shell makes me look like a HUGE bobblehead haha. Still an awesome lid regardless
I'm considering a new helmet myself, either a Bell Vortex or Icon Airmada. Have read a lot on both and know the pros and cons. Only thing I really want to know is if the Vortex uses more then one shell size. Have heard some say that the outer shell is pretty big and I wear a size small. Dont wanna look like a bobblehead going down the road with my head moving all over the place. (Had that problem with my AGV K3.) And I know Icon has 4 shell sizes for the Airmada.
Any thoughts?
I was going to give the Bell stuff a thumbs up before I read that you purchased it. The Vortex is awesome for the money.

Asked him his opinion on the Bell Vortex or Icon was and his reply was, "I don't know, I only wear Arai or Shoei, i don't worry about that other crap." I stared at him, pissed off that he just said that to paying customer and I walked out. Guy at the small shop was real chill, helped me pick out my size and see which one suited me better.
It's not the bike or gear that makes an a$$-hat; it's the person with it....
What a toolbox. I wouldn't hesitate to sell you a $150 helmet. ****, I've probably got 5 scorpion helmets at home (sigh, probably more than 5) and a few Vortex's. You don't have to spend $600 to get a helmet worth riding in. A ton of people just don't want to sell apparel. Whatever, more customers for us!

I will agree that my Vortex is a bit bigger than some of my other lids. Definitely bigger than my RS-1. I forget about once I'm riding. Quit staring at the mirror and go hit the road!
Another plus for Bell helmets. I own 2 Stars ('Viper'-crashed, and RSD 'C-Note'). I'm both a street & track rider, and ventilation is ridiculously top notch (and that says something considering I also had an X-11 and X-12). The transistions shield is a must. Great aerodynamics at speed. Only downfall is it is loud, but I wear earplugs (or at the very least earbuds for music), so it isn't an issue. I'll deal with a mild drone for supurb airflow any day. Locking sheild crack, comfortable interior liner, light. Both of mine are pre-'10s, so ordering in a size smaller than normal gave me an absolutely perfect fit. Very race-fitting that took a a few hours to break in, but like Suomys, once the EPS conforms to your head, fit is spot on.

I agree do you know how many shells the vortex has? I hate the fact it makes my head huge. I hope the rs1 is smaller
I have the RS1 and I like it a lot. The transitions shield is one of the best gear related purchases I've made in a while.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Bell if I was in the market for a helmet again. They have been around for a very long time and know what they are doing when it comes to making helmets.
I read a thread on hear that said taping the small holes behind the ears on the Vortex makes it a lot quieter and doesn't affect airflow so i will be trying that out to see if it helps.
I also read that Bell uses two shell sizes on the Vortex. One size for the extra small and small(my size) and all the others share one size shell. Read that they put a lot of padding in a medium size so it fits.
I'll post pics up here when I get it so people who wear a small or extra small can get a feel for it's size. I'm 5'10" and 155 lbs.

Anyone have personal experience with how the fitment of a new Bell star compares to a shoei rf1000? I'm a M in shoei and hoping the same is true for the bell star.
Im a medium in shoei rf1100 and got a bell star in small
I'd expect you to be the same size in both, but I guess that round shape to the Star makes it so that some people can bump down a size. I'm a large in both, though the Bell Star does fit a little looser.

The only problem I had with the Medium was the fit around my forehead. It was a little loose. Tried on a small and it was perfect.
What I've found is that the Star, RS-1 and Vortex have slightly different head shapes. My Star fits my head perfectly in a small, my little brother's Vortex and RS-1 squeeze me a bit tightly around the temples (he also wears size small), to the point of being painful after a short while.
Cant wait to pick up my new Vortex from the shop tomorrow. Only thing that sucks is that the dark tint visor is on back order and I wont get that for another couple weeks. I'll post up pics tomorrow!
