An ear infection can easily throw off balance, as the sensory neurons in the inner ear can affect a person's proprioception (equilibrium > no spell check needed).
This happened to me this summer, from using reusable plugs. I did feel disoriented sometimes and my ear would hurt. I was prescribed fluticasone proprionate (the stuff that is used for asthma or stuffy noses), as it cleared the infection and drained the eustachian tubes in my ear. I think the popular name of that product is Flonase, but I was prescribed the generic (and more powerful) stuff.
I don't use the reusable plugs more than 3 times anymore... I just get the Hearos plugs from Cycle Gear- $5 for like a pack of 10 pairs.
So, I agree with 600rr Rider, I would go to the Doctor; as if it is an infection, it will most likely get worse without medication...
