so i took the car yesterday given my ear ache, described else where on the forum, and a traffic officer rear ends me in his dad's uninsured old merc, spoiling my freakin year. no injuries though:
EDIT: the what if title, poses the question, what if i didnt have the ear ache. i would have been on the bike.....
Well, you would have been a smaller target on your bike... But if he would have hit you, I don't think you'd worry about your earache anymore...
I'll put money that he was on the phone or texting...
Is no insurance legal in South Africa? Do you have uninsured insurance by chance?
3rd part insurance i legally required, but it never gets enforced in any way. he said he would pay.
no he wasnt texting, the road apears to make a slip way for turning right, but then the main lanes dart to the right into the apparent slipway. he thought he would pass me and suddenly he was out of space on a wet tar surface. SCREETCH....SILENCE.....BOOOM.......Agony!!
holy $hit man, you're not having much luck this year, are you?
I'm glad theres no injury, is he paying for the damage?
yes fortuanatly no injuries. this has been one of my worse years. i am now the proud owner of two messed up vehicles standing in some panel beater repair shop. 2012 went something like this:
i drop my bike, little damage
buddy crashes his bike. broken shoulder
wife crashes her bike, damaged leg. nearly written off
audi runs wife's car into gate during service. repaired at their cost
this crash invovling my car
i should just take the freakin bus
i have to put down $600 for my insurance to kick in, which i will recover from him through one of 3 ways:
ill start by asking him nicely, and see if he pays
if not ill have my lawayer write hime a letter (i have legal insurance)
final step is small claims court or full blown law suit to recover the money, depending on what my legal insurance lawayer advises me to do.
since he is uninsured, my insurance, with highly paid lawayers, will take him to court for the money. ive been involved in similar situation before (2005), ill have to act as witness in that case though, and it will probably take 2 years or so. for this reason ill give him the option to pay for all the damages in cash, hence canceling the insurance claim, but this would require him to fork out quite a bit of cash within the next 3 days or so, so im preparing myself for some degree of legal involvement either way. The car is valued at $10 000
Thankfully you're alright, but other than that I'd say good riddance to that VW. (Had nothing but trouble with them and I'm hoping everyday for someone to just total mine while it's parked).

i have tons of resepect for my vw. its the 4th generation vw ive bought, and ive come to trust it with my life. ive had a few issues, but mostly its been awesome value for money.
sounds like its products arent the same quality in all countries, which is a pity.

DRAG that idiot through court...by his face....i did meet a nice traffic cop in SA...he did my motorcycle test, and we laughed and jointly cursed the IDIOT he had before(i missed him sadly)...and guess what, it was another traffic officer trying to get a bike licence...failed isnt the word, danger to the public is getting there
P.S. I hope his holster isnt empty by accident...also been checking that photo...if you think that road is wet you need to come to the UK....no excuse for that guys crash, at an intersection too how fast was the idiot going
