Everything went very smooth. Got everything tight and filled up and started it up and was on for about a minute and smoked. I'm guessing that was from a little oil getting on the headers but after shutting it off I checked the level and there's nothing showing in the window. I used just over 3 qts. I read somewhere to wait 5 min and check again but it's been 15 min and nothing. What's the deal? There's no leaks. And when I turn the bike to the on position the red oil indicator light is on. Any advice? I just paid the bike off and I dont want to screw anything up.
Ill try that. But you say the oil filter fills but I thought the bike only takes 3.1 qts all together. I already have that much in it.
Nevermind. Now it's good! Thanks for your help.
Did you start the bike, yet. Clean oil to the top of glass will somtimes look like theres no oil in it. Like said....If you can lean the bike both ways while seeing the sight glass. That'll tell ya.

Ya u need your bike level, so have someone hold it for u. Start it, let it run then shut it off and check. If u can't see it, add more oil. Just cuz it says 3.1q sometimes it takes more. My bike did.
Spec is 2.9 with filter change. I personally hold the front brake squat to see the window and pull the bike level, on level ground of course. I rarely use all three qts
That right there. If my 05 is on the side stand the sight glass will show NO oil when it's properly filled.
The first time I checked it like that I was wondering WTF happened because I was sure I had put the right amount in earlier in the day. Once I stepped back and set the beer down I realized that the bike was on the side stand. I've probably done hundreds of oil changes in my life but there were a few moments of thinking I had lost my mind that day.
