I did this tonight, it took me a little over an hour to complete the wiring and soldering. It came out great. I couldn't get a 1 ohm 25watt resistor locally so I took some 1ohm 10watt resistors and wired them in series and parallel to bump my wattage and keep my resistance the same.
Can someone use RadioShack.com and post part numbers for this? Anxious to do the mod, but not sure which parts through them can be substituted to work...

if you want your high beam on 100% all the time, you don't need to do anything except flip the switch... :all_cohol
Do the KP Hybrid mod! I was between the two as well, dual h4's is way better, and modding the h4 bulbs to fit is as easy as cutting out a valentines day card
Bringing this back from the dead, but a local stereo shop went under and I bought a bunch of relays and resistors, so if anyone is still wanting these made up, I'll be making kits up with guides to tap-splice everything in. PM me if interested.

Sounds interesting, can you pm me some general information on how they are designed? I want dual headlights but with the highbeam switch still working and want to make sure that it will not mess up any of the stock wiring in the long term. Thanks

But for the lowest cost, yes it is the best way to go. I'm still making them for people here and there. PM me if you're interested in either HIDs or the dual beam relay.
Great mod! Also wired up the front turn signals to operate as running lights as well.. however they ended up melting because the housings couldn't handle the power dissipation. I bought new turn signals of the same kind and will put a resistor in-line with the running light rail to lower the power.. hopefully they won't melt again!
Nice write up. I fail to understand why some of the manufacturers do this single headlight thing when I have yet to meet a single person that likes it.
Could you just wire the low beam and high beam bulb wires (positives) together with the resistor in place, and then still leave the original connection for the high beam positive wire?
My thoughts behind this are that when you are on low beam, the current will travel through the resistor to the positive side of the high beam bulb and be at reduced power, but when you hit the high beam switch, the current will take the path of least resistance and travel through the original positive high beam bulb wire thus powering the bulb at full power.
You would only need the resistor and wouldn't need to worry about a relay.
In theory yes, but you will be drawing twice as much current on the low beam wire when you have your high beam switch off. Not the best idea in the world. You will pop fuses/over heat the wires easier.
Isn't that what your doing with this mod anyway? From the drawing it looks like the high beam bulb is always powered by the low beam wire.
If I knew the resistance of each bulb I could do the calculation to see how much of an increase in amperage we would see. Judging from people saying they have had this mod for a long time with no problems, I would assume it's not very much.

I think, in theory, you're right.
For the low beam case, the high beam wire wouldn't be powered, so you'd get some current going from the low beam wire, through the resistor, to the high beam.
For the high beam case, both wires would be powered, so you wouldn't get very much current going through the resistor at all, and it would be less strain on the low beam wire.
That's a clever observation and I bet it would work. I'm curious if you've gone ahead with it.
I plan to do it once I get the resistor. I ordered a couple off Amazon and they are taking a while to get here.
I'll post up my findings after I try it out.
