yup...can't express enough how important it is to have good riding boots. I broke my left ankle in 2004 in a motorcycle accident. Was wearing only running shoes and my ankle snapped on impact. If only I had proper boots on, I would have just sprained it. I got 3 pins in my ankle now.

They're gonna yell you to get a better boot because it doesn't matter how far you ride. You need full protection at all times.

Just my personal choice, but I wouldn't wear anything other than proper, full riding boots. I'd rather be slightly uncomfortable for a short while than immobile for a long while. Ankle protection is key.
i can be a little blunt when talking about boots, got me in trouble before actually. also got me a free set of amazing Supertech-R's....
LOL, I still got a couple months left of this deployment, and probably a few too many hours a day to search the internet. Still not set on the ones I want yet.

I'll sort that out for your real quick.....***cough*** Alpinestars....
Now I'm starting to lean towards Alpinestars, just gotta find the pair I want now and decide how much I'm going to spend. My buddy just told me he picked up a pair of GP 1 gloves that are slightly too big for him but might be my size... Guess I'll find out in a couple months.

I'm a college student and have gone down before (left turn no-looking cager)
I ended up with a plate and 12 screws in my wrist. My ankle however was sprained severely, doc said you should have broke it if you wanted a full recovery, I'm definitely looking to get a boot, I have a friend at a* so price is lenient, I have to ask though, what is it like walking around with a boot anywhere? I've never owned a pair, and I will be checking out to see if I can get a locker somehwere on campus but let's say you go out to the grocery store or you and your buddies ride out to a bike night get together, are they comfy to walk in ?
I want to have boots but don't want to be walking on cleats, never owned a pair of boots so I'm a straight up boot squid
be careful about saying that a broken ankle is something you are willing to risk
do keep in mind, ankles, and foot bones are 2 of the breaks that RARELY heal 100% properly, and often and up leaving the person in some degree of pain for the rest of their lives
He's right my ride is only 15-20min but I still strap on my A* SMX plus boots. Your ankle will be destroyed in anything less. I put them in my backpack with plenty of room for books or work clothes whatever no problem.

I've owned my supertech R from A* for 1 season and i gotta say even when me and the wife go for the night and decide to take the bike I don't even feel like I am wearing MC race boots feel like I have regular shoes on... Probably more comfortable actually... I have even had pple comment on my boots that those are some sweet shoes cause my jeans are pulled over them and they have no idea that I am wearing a full race boot.... Then ill pull up my pants a little and they give me that weird look like wtf but Idc I know I am that much safer
I too have the supertech r's and they are great boots, just a pain to take on/off and my parents got me sm-2 for xmas not knowing i bought myself boots, and i decided to keep both since it wont hurt to switch between the two depending on the ride i plan on doing.
this thread makes me happy, lol.
it changed my mind too, im now getting full riding boots too.
but the things is with the kind of thinking why not by a full racing suit for street use?

I current have a pair of Sedici Lorenzo riding boots. But after reading this thread, I am thinking about upgrading to something with more protection. Looking to spend in the neighborhood of $300. It must be comfortable enough to wear all day and offer as much protection as possible. I wear a size 8.5 shoes if that makes any difference in seletion.
Jason, could you hook me up with something? TYIA.
Here's what I currently have:

OEM: Solo Seat Cowl ; CBR1000RR Turn Signal Lenses (for Fronts & Rears) Akrapovic: Slip-On (Open Version) TechSpec: Snake Skin Tank Grips ; Tank Pro #2 Tripage: LED Pegs (40 per peg) ; Knight Rider Third Light ; Brake Flasher
Yet another convert here. I was gonna get a riding shoe for the spring, but now I'll be picking up those a* boots. Haha, Jason is gonna love me with all the stuff I'm planning to buy.
My usual answer when people ask me for $300 boots. Our best selling model:
SMX Plus? It comes in Vented version also, right? Are there any drawbacks for the vents? Lastly, is the Gore-Tex version worth the extra $? I try not to ride when it rains, but would probably happen occasionally.

Well, you're already off to a good start! I'll email you tracking when your stuff leaves.

That pic is the vented version, and that makes up probably 80% of the sales of our SMX-Plus. Don't bother with the waterproof version. How many times will you ride in the rain vs. how many times will you ride where you could take advantage of the perforation? Unless you're rolling in waterproof head to toe gear I'd do vented.

Yeah TCX has been making solid boots since they switched the name from Oxtar. They've got quite a few respectable models out right now.
I have had these for sometime now, they feel good, and easy/durable for long or short rides, and until I find some boots that fit descent I stand by this product....
I'm a college student too and after i spent ages on internet and into shops i took the TCX x-street; the only decent "boots" that will allow you to walk whatever you want without problem and doesn't make you like robocop; the alternative is using my coq sportif shoes===>0 security.
Jason, please let me know about the gloves. PM sent.

Not sure how big those jean legs are, but my khakis went over them fine when I tried it on last week. It was a little tight, but not too bad, and was fine once you have the the leg opening over the top collar.

Stg, any recommendation for a Sidi boot that maybe isn't all the way up the calf?
To be honest, if it isn't a full length boot it's going to have the same protection as any other shoe. Most dedicated riding shoes have a firm sole and something suitable in the toe/shifter area but protection is going to be limited. I'm not allowed to say anything bad about Sidi anymore so "the Apex, Nitro, Doha, Blade, and Streetburner should work for you".
