Here are the results of several hours on the Dyno today. For perspective I'm running an Akrapovic slip-on and K&N Performance Air Filter using the same Dynojet. The results from today's mapping are in blue whilst those from the original power run conducted back in August are in red:
The overall peak figures are as follows:
Peak Power: 110.5bhp
Peak Torque: 45.6Nm
The Dyno chart below shows power output at a given throttle opening:
The CBR now feels so much smoother across the entire rev range and the fuelling is now sorted. I was originally not expecting any increase in peak power or torque as put simply I'm not running a full system. The improvements are however, a huge surprise with a healthy increase of power and torque across the rev range which is certainly noticeable when riding. Considering the aim was primarily to address fuelling the tuner has done a superb job and I'm extremely happy with the results.
whereabouts did you get the tuning done at ry
thanks
All the tuning was done at Seastar Superbikes. They are probably the best in the Norfolk/Suffolk area for bespoke Dyno mapping and have a huge amount of race experience.
The Following User Says Thank You to Ry6rr For This Useful Post:
With the CBR now mapped the bike is now going away for the winter. The weather here is starting to deteriorate and work commitments likely mean that I won't get much more riding in. Aesthetically, there is little else I want to do to the bike as I'm happy with how the CBR looks. The focus for winter modifications is performance but limiting it to what would be deemed acceptable within Superstock 600 rules. I have no intention of going racing again but it will give me a backdrop to work to during the off season and is a good way of keeping costs down. The CBR is already a great bike so any changes will be subtle with the aim of complimenting the bike and improving its ability on track, however, some of the planned modifications will also benefit it on the road.
I will post updates over the coming winter months...
I've been thinking the same too Ry regarding putting it away but it's a little early yet no?? We could have another month or so...
Looking forward to your updates though.
Normally I would ride until at least the end of October or until I see the first evidence of road salt being used and then the bike would go away. This year I have resided to the fact that the CBR has had to go away slightly earlier. It's not necessarily a bad thing as the winter modifications can begin...
I picked this collection of cleaning products up today in preparation for this weekend’s deep clean and polish.
Before the bike is put away I tend to remove the fairings and give everything a good clean before reassembling and polishing so it’s spotless to work on over the off-season. It’s also a good opportunity to check everything over; slightly obsessive perhaps but the CBR is going to be off the road for at least three to four months so in my opinion its worth it. That and the fact I find it easier to work on a clean and sorted bike.
The Gain of your dyno chart it pretty impressive. Have you thought about using heat wrapping tape on your airbox to keep it colder? I heard you will gain alot more power lowend side if you do that.

I'm really pleased with the performance gain but more so with the smoothness of the throttle response. The only real way to get any more of a noticeable power increase is to fit a full system. I may fit one eventually but for the time being I'm happy with how the fuelling and power is and would rather spend the money elsewhere.
awesome stuff man, wish i had the money and time to do all this. the CB gaugecluster trim and the one next to it on the handle bars are sick.
Thanks for the positive comment. It's taken a year to get the CBR to where it is now and there is still a bit more planned especially over this winter.
Honda Racing Carbon Tank Pad - CBR600RR Modification Thread
I picked this up yesterday to protect the paintwork on my tank. As its a Honda Racing accessory it matches the other carbon parts perfectly. I will post up a picture once I've affixed it to the tank.
After a few weeks away I've managed to get back into the garage and finally add some detailing to my Bridgestone S20 tyres. I think it looks pretty good and importantly it doesn't look obtrusive in any way. With hindsight if I were to do this again I would do it when both the front and rear wheels are off to make it easier and less time consuming.
Today has been fairly productive and after giving the CBR a polish I have fitted my new tank pad. Whilst it matches all the other carbon parts well I've mainly fitted it to protect the paint more than anything else.
On closer inspection of this years MotoGP bikes they not only have the Bridgestone name embellished in white on the tyre wall but also the Battlax logo marked in red as well. Whilst I wait for some performance parts I have on order to arrive I thought I would add the extra detailing on the tyres to pass the time. Hopefully it turns out ok and I will post up pictures once finished.
These arrived in the post today to replace those already on the bike:
After a dozen or so trackdays this year the chain and sprockets have been subjected to a fair bit of abuse and its time to replace with a fresh set for next season. I've remained with the stock set-up (16T Front/41T Rear) as I'm content with the gearing as it works for me on both the road and track. If this was a track only bike I would have a good selection of sprockets to suit different circuits. I've also ordered a Tsubaki chain which should arrive soon so I can get everything fitted over the next couple of weeks.
Tsubaki chains are used fairly extensively in BSB and the superstock classes here in the UK and they are pretty good and very reliable. I hope to finish the extra Bridgestone tyre detailing this weekend when I get a bit of free time. I will make sure I post up some pictures when completed.
damn nice build and bike. love all the quality parts you are putting into it!!
Thanks. I still have a bit more planned, especially over the next month or two, to get it ready for next season and to make it more accomplished on track.
I think the Battlax Axe in red will be a nice touch
After making a start on the red Battlax detailing today it just didn't look right at all. The white Bridgestone name looks really good but given the large size of the Battlax logo it appeared a tad overpowering. Fortunately the red Tyreart marker paint is easy to remove with a bit of Muc-Off and light scrubbing.
Honda Racing Wheel Stripes - CBR600RR Modification Thread
After a trip to my local Honda dealer today I found these reduced in the bargain bucket so I thought I would give them a go.
I've been debating on putting wheel stripes on the CBR for months. This is a red set complete with Honda Racing decals so hopefully once fitted they will subtly match the OEM paint scheme and Bridgestone tyre detailing.
you mention throttle response in your dyno runs above.
are you referring to the "lurch" or abrupt transition from closed to open throttle?
particularly unpleasant in lower 1/2 of rpm range?
how did your tuner minimize this awful feature of our cbr's?
any info gratefully received!
My tuner spent just over 5 hours doing the mapping for my CBR. He's extremely experienced and used to do the mapping for the Kawasaki WSBK team with PB Motorsport so I'm pretty sure he applied some of the tricks of the trade to get it to where it is now. I know what you mean about the transition between open and closed throttle and the abruptness though. When he had finished the smoothness of the throttle response was so much better and the snatchiness at lower revs had ceased. He did mention that he did a lot of work with the Air-Fuel ratio as that seemed to be where most of the issues for my CBR arose as it was running so lean. The next time I'm at my Dyno Centre I will have a chat with him and see what info I can prise out of him and let you know.
