Hello everyone, I decided to join the forum because I want to learn more about riding. I have been into cars forever and have owned many, but now I feel that since I have loved motorcycles for so long it's about time I stop fearing and own one. I miss having an older sports car where I feel so in touch with the engine and drivetrain, the newer sports cars that I have owned just bummed me out. I can't imagine how exciting it is to ride a bike, being able to feel like you are one with it... anyway... I have had some riding experience here and there, but for the most part I am a newb.
I don't own one yet because I am being patient and saving my money for once! I'm planning to buy in January. I want a Honda bike because I love Honda, the engineering, reliability, looks, everything. My b/f has suggested that I get a GSX-R 600 because they are cheaper, but I'm not so sure that's what I want.
I am not really interested in commuting on my bike, I just want to learn how to be a skilled rider and I would love to eventually get some track time.
For those that do track, I have a question. I have a two piece leather suit made by Seools (got it in Okinawa) that I would like to be made into a once piece. Is that a dumb idea to have it professionally sewn together (with the right thread) ? It's a very nice set and it's the right size for me, but the jacket rides up on my neck when I am in riding position. There are a few snaps that can secure the jacket bottom to a belt in the pants. The pants come up kinda high so that's the reason I want them to be sewn together. I have a Shoei helmet, but no gloves or boots yet. Thanks for any replies!
Welcome to .net!Wish I could answer your leathers question, but an informed member will be with you shortly lol.
So what color and year CBR are you hoping to get?
Never heard of them getting sewn together, I guess it's possible if you find a good leather smith. Your leathers will have to zip together(sewn?) if you want to go to a track day though.
Get some alpinestar or sidi boots.
Knox, rs taichi, held, or alpinestar for gloves
600rr's are awesome bikes you don't want that ugly gixxer
I don't know what year I'd like to have, but hopefully I can find an older used bike in the 2001-2004 range. I'd love to have the 03' red and black scheme. It would be awesome If I could find something $4k or under.
I see that there is a gear section on the forum so maybe i'll post pics of my leathers so everyone can get a better idea of what I want to do to them. I bought them in 2004 when I was going to buy a bike, but something happened & I couldn't take the bike back to the states with me.
Welcome, great idea to join, have a look around and ask away ;) Id prob look into selling your 2 piece if you want to go that route? then invest in a 1 piece, be sure to look around lots of deals on used ones as well. Good luck finding your RR :) cheers
welcome to .net. and let me say (with no personal motive what so ever) that 03-04 is the best looking year of the 600RR. So, i fully support your decision to go that route. don't worry about mileage to much, there's a guy on here that has right around 250K miles on his 04 f4i... just make sure you find one that's well maintained
CBRtime is right too....this thread is going to blow up with views...

Thanks everyone. I do have a LOT of questions. I'm trying to be as patient as possible with the whole thing. I just know when I have the right money saved up, there will be a bike somewhere with my name on it! :) I'm hopeful that I can find it through a private seller a good bit before the riding season starts. That way I can get the best deal.
Yeah, I know most times I assume everyone is male unless it's obvious from their avatar that they are female. I don't intend on advertising (if you know what I mean), so I don't think this thread will blow up. :-P
haha , they will want to see pics other than your avatar w the kitten inside the pumkin lol; even though you dont have a bike yet it wont matter :P Good call about looking in the off season, def will get a better deal, i bought my current bike and old F4i both in Jan :) buyers market in the off season right
Maybe I'll post one when I finally get my bike! :) Just cause I need to quit being a hermit, always afraid to come out of my shell.
Here's my gear and the dilemma I'm facing. I took a couple pics with it all on to show how the back of the pants poke out if my jacket rides up. (And yes that's a stool from my dinner table. ) It has a snap or two to secure it to a belt, but it wouldn't help me since the waist of the pants are kinda high and I need the jacket to quit riding up around my neck and poking me in the trachea. lol. First pic is where I have it pulled down and second pic is it riding up and my back being exposed. That's why I want to get it sewn. I bought the leathers at a local bike shop in Okinawa, does it look like good stuff to you guys? YKK zippers, padding for the back in the jacket, I could put an insert there. Breathable fabric behind knees and crotch. Air vents on shoulders... I just can't find much info about it and only seems to be sold in japan.

The only way to safely judge these pictures is to see pictures of you not wearing the gear....

You need a fight strap, like on a hockey jersey, to attach to the pants! It's already got loops for a belt so it might actually work. Maybe 3 or 4, actually. I'm only kind of joking, but serious about this at the same time because I think it'd be a very costly job to put a zipper on both properly. Straps would keep the jacket down more than the pants up. Honestly, not sure why they made what looks like a 2-piece suit with no zipper.
You should be able to buy a heavy duty zipper from somewhere, but you'll need to check if it's realistic to expect it to work when you're leaned forward without putting too much strain on the material - doesn't look like it has stretch panels so the strain might break the stitching eventually; also, you'll need find out if there's a tailor who can put it on properly, unless you can do it yourself.
In the end, I think you might want to get a suit that goes together or a 1-piece. I know how hard it is to find - took me forever. Good luck.
Thanks for the replies! The pants do have stretch panels in the back. I'm going to have to find some way to make it work because it's all I have until I can afford a 1 piece suit. I just don't want to go down and the jacket come up and expose my back.

Got some A* gloves that were on sale today, gauntlet style and got a business card for a guy who does motorcycle leather alterations, sweet!
I sat on a few bikes today, an 07' GSX-R 600, an 08 Kawasaki ZX-6, and an 07 CBR 600RR.
The GSX-R felt really wide and I didn't like the initial feel. The Kawasaki was so tall and seemed to have a very aggressive forward riding position. I finally tried the CBR600rr and the fit was like a glove besides the fact that I was on my toes. I'm only 5'2" and sitting on those bikes was rather scary because there was so much weight in the balance and only so much foot contact on the ground. Looks like I'm going to have to lower the bike I get. I'm pretty excited that the CBR was the best fit!

Cbr is a comfy bike ( relatively) just don't forget to have the front lowered along with the back.
Keep an eye out for deals on suits. It may be hard to find used in your size, but a lot of retailers will have closeout.
get a hold of jason at STG (pretty active on here too) he can normally hook up some good deals. He prob has some nice closeouts with winter coming too.
