Whats up everyone. Well a little bit of history to start out. Had myself an 03 zx-6r. Loved that bike but needed a better car so traded it. About a month later i realized how much i missed riding and starting searching craigslist. Found a guy selling an 03 CBR for 3700. Find out it's an r-title and talk the kid down from 3700 to 2400 and a few of my matco tools. This was before i even went to look at the bike. Go take a look at the bike. Another kid owned it and dropped it (left side). Didn't have insurance so it ended up at the impound yard. Other kid never paid for it at the yard, given r-title and sold at auction to the kid who was selling it to me. Go to look at it. Also in his Craigslist ad, he stated "nothing wrong except fairings are cracked. Could use new fairings but is rideable. Also has head turning led's that really pop". Riiiiight. Anyways, go look at and every fairing is cracked. Brought my buddy who is a certified motorcycle mechanic with me, he takes it for a ride and asks "why does the front wheel wobble?" Kid i'm buying it off of says, "oh, i got the tire balanced, there's no issue". Again riiiiight. Tells me doesn't overheat, no issues whatsoever. Also he put an 08 stock muffler on it (for whatever reason i don't know). So i buy it, knowing i'll have some stuff to fix but i don't want this kid to keep it and let this bike get destroyed anymore.
So here she is, the day i get her
Not bad looking right? Well, what you don't see is the bent rim, the bad cooling fan relay, the cracked fairings held together by zip ties, the horrible wiring done for the "head turning led's", the ghetto rigged resistors for the turn signals and brake light that worked when they wanted to, and the coolant leak among countless other little things. What you can see is the sh***y 08 muffler, the too long grips, and the wrong year/ebay mirrors. Ok, onward to fixing everything
Well, finallly torn everything apart and starting getting to work.
First thing ordered, complete fairing kit. Looks damn good i might add. Total cost $415 with free shipping. And ABS plastic (i hate fiberglass fairing btw)
The resistors and "head turning led's" It was a wiring nightmare but finally got it all cleaned up.
$20 custom led resistor wired in (Thanks to the write up on this site). $20 for the resistor. All turn signals and brake lights work now.
The red grips were the ones that were on the bike when i bought it. Too long and too think. Ordered new progrip black grips. Took this pic to show the difference. $20 for grips.
Got rid of the Sh***y 08 stock CBR exhaust (still have no clue why the kid put it on this bike) and got myself a yoshi rs-5. $150 for yoshi exhaust (ebay deal)
Got most of the wiring cleaned up. Still a bit to go but a hell of a lot better than it was.
Here's the rim. As you can see has a chunk out of it. At the local rim repair shop right now. They think the spoke may also be bent. $180 to fix the rim. Good thing the kid balanced it huh?
So when we went to take the rim off THE AXLE NUT WAS F***ING HAND TIGHT!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME! Thank god i bought this and not some other kid at this point.
