7 numbers 823,54 combinations... 823,543 tickets ($2 a piece) $ 1,647,086 spend to win $305 mil....
Thus making it a investment than a gamble...
Yes there are 5 numbers, but there are 59 numbers to choose from and 35 power ball numbers. Since numbers can only be used once per drawing, we need to do the math to exclude sets with repeat numbers.
First we multiply:
(1*2*3*4......*59)/((1*2*3*4*5)*(1*2*3*4......*54))
This gives us 5,006,386
So multiply by the number of power balls
5,006,386*35 = 175,223,510 combinations
We can then find total cost multiplying combinations with ticket cost:
175,223,510*2 = $350,447,020
If you have that kind of money you're not worried about the lottery. Even if for some reason you did pay for every combination, there's still the chance someone else will hit the jackpot as well. If that happens your investment yield was just instantly sliced in half.

Yea its funny said on the news last night the people who play the lottery are the ones strapped for cash where its not in their budget and the people that can afford to play don't because they don't need to.
So the wealthy stay wealthy while the poor get more poor trying to make it wealthy
Working for the federal government for 6 years under 2 departments has blown my mind on how to federal gov blows money on stupid petty things. If I saved or sold the crap they threw away just since I've been here that I've seen or known about or the money wasted Id be able to hold my own lottery and still be wealthy
