hahaha, we have been working on developing this part since June. It started out as a hand sculpture, then we scanned some geometry into our computer. We were initially going to offer this as a CNC aluminum piece with anodized surface, then engraved. We decided that carbon fiber would be better. We made a plastic prototype in September and showed it around. Generally the item was received very well. So we decided to make a mould to try a few pieces. The pieces in the photos are the first parts from the first mould. We are machining more moulds to accomodate the demand in the spring once the season starts. I will have the first production run of parts soon, and we will start selling these before the end of the year. I am thinking of launching this part at $72.99. Please let me know what you guys think of that price.
I'd really like to support you guys in making this product but, not at $72.99. The honest truth is that I wouldn't pay more then $50 for this piece. That is pushing it. I've weighed in with feedback on the facebook page too. Just to put it in perspective, you could buy a CF stator cover, or CF exhaust covers for around $40-50(which are about the same size) or a larger piece such as a chain guard for $80.
I understand the time and effort invloved in this, and the ingenuity but you have not opened pandoras box here. I'd much rather put that $ towards a legit slip-on.

I value your input here. The $72.99 will likely be a starting price point to feel out the market. You cannot compare this part to a stator cover for these reasons:
1. this part is brand new and the tooling required to make it had to be paid for, and the first 500 units will have the tooling ammortized into their price.
2. The stator covers have been around for years and the manufacturers that offer them have had their tooling repaid many times over already
3. This part is more intricate in manufacturing because of its geometry. It is therefore more laborious and costs more money because it takes more time.
4. Just because the size is similar it does not mean that the pricing should be (have you ever seen the quality difference between the cheap Hong Kong shorty levers and the nice levers that some American companies offer?...the price difference is staggering, yet a lot of people know to go with the more expensive, high quality item).
5. The stator cover moulds are made with existing geometry of the OEM engine cover. Our exhaust tip has been designed from a concept in my brain. A lot of time and money was spent on sculpting, scanning, 3D design, prototyping, testing, etc. A unique product always costs more (look at the price percentage difference between a Dianese suit and an AGV Sport suit). The pioneer of design and technology spends more on development so they have to charge more. The follower/duplicator just makes something that follows in the footsteps of the pioneer and does not endure the development costs. The final price of the product reflects this.
In perspective, let's say a person buys one of these to use for a year or so until they raise the funds for an aftermarket exhaust, or until they decide on what exhaust to go with. Since the part is not consumeable, after getting the exhaust they will likely be able to sell it for at least half price, if not more. So in the end the total investment will only be about $37 or so.
Some people will decide to keep their stock exhaust because the extra noise doesn't matter to them, and freeing up just a few ponies is not worth the investment. These people are likely to get in on this part too.
The return on investment here has to be present and realistic, otherwise I don't make any money to invest into new technology to continuously bring you guys new goodies.
I am not worried about selling these and getting my time's worth. There will be plenty of demand around the world with six model years and every international market offering this bike.
Much better than the alternative of having the stock pipe exposed. Also I've read about how some members prefer the stock exhaust over other systems (slip on, full) so this may interest that group.

Since this is a "temporary" solution while saving up for a slip-on, for the most part, why not make it out of ABS plastic or such (something cheap that can handle the heat) in a similar color as the stock cover to save a few bucks. People who are saving up for a slip-on are not exactly splurging for a CB piece anyway. I wouldn't have a problem with $72.99, but IMO it's a little bit steep for a "temporary" piece. Just my two cents.

I think it depends on the condition/look of the stock exhaust really, I'm leaning more towards matte. I have a slip on already so wouldnt be interested right now at buying it, but good luck with the market introduction.

It looks good at all the angles! I would've for sure purchased these during my stock exhaust days.. Gloss black all the way, but there are matte lovers out there though... awesome to have choices too.. if anything, just add a paintable (ready to paint) version for those that want to match their rides??
After market exhaust systems is the best route to go with for this matter, but there are also people out there that prefer to keep the stock exhaust & refuse to go after market.... so much PROPS for this product!!!
Apparently I'm one of the few that like to rock the stock exhaust. I just prefer not having my entire city knowing how I ride :)
Would this fit with the side heat shields as well? I'm assuming it will, in which case, I'll probably order one this week...
