I'm new, I'm sure you have a lot more miles under your belt than I do.
It's a bit worrisome with how sensitive to your environment you have to be when riding a moto that you can't even notice a 20lb bag strapped to your back. I'd hope you would at least notice it and that it just wouldn't bother you.
I don't ride to school/work often but when I go, I just bring a backpack. Something I got from old Navy a while back. It has a chest strap which I think is important when on the highway.
I typically carry a 15in laptop, 1-2 text books, and a notepad. My helmet is locked to my bike.
I honestly don't mind. No different than carrying my regular messenger bag around all day. Don't really notice it when I'm riding either.

Can't and don't are two entirely different things. I ride with it so often that I don't notice it. And my backpack doesn't weigh 20 pounds.
How's that?

For school I've got my notebook and text book for that class and a water bottle in my backpack. I wear my boots and jacket to class, carry my helmet. Put helmet and jacket on floor under seat.
For work ill put my shoes in my backpack and change my boots out to my shoes when I get there, boots in shoes, jacket, backpack and helmet on the shelf in the break room
And now it feels weird whenever I don't have a backpack.

I've ridden to work almost everyday for the past 4 years... I wear the icon squad 2 backpack and I'm so used to it I don't notice it anymore. I load it with my lunch and drinks, extra tools just in case I need them etc...
Not for nothing, but it deserves to suck if you're going to college and are using a super sport (race replica) bike for your commuting transportation and having to carry all of that school crap with you.
For many of us this is just not the case, and it's nice being able to walk with your possessions and not have them sit on your motorcycle whereas someone can steal everything with ease right out of it. Setting that aside and as stated before, I go grocery shopping on my enduro bike and I'm not even remotely uncomfortable with 3 or four bags of food in it while riding and it proabaly ends up at least 15lbs. This is including milk and soda bottles, it's nothing special, just a regular backpack too. Putting luggage bags on sport bikes when I want to ride the thing how it was meant to be ridden makes no sense, that's why they have other types of motorcycles available for that. They just might not impress your college buddies though.......

Your GF's cake turned out fine after being put in a backpack?? That is either one small ass cake secured with food compatibe bungee cords or 'Pics or GTFO!'
Backpack is my liking and also the only type of bag I tried riding with really. The Ogio like bags posted by Eurodriver which mount on to the seat seem useful but have there been any cases of them slipping off the bike? Looks a bit risky.

I use my army backpack still, olive green type color, and an army bergan waterproof liner inside(can seal that thing airtight) I work in a bank(behind the scenes not a branch) don't think leathers all day would be appreciated
I use a backpack for short trips and even for longer ones with a light load. Not really convinced it's a good idea to carry a backpack in any case for safety reasons, though it depends on what you've packed and you can also get some backpacks that hold an extra back protector.
If I've got a lot of stuff to carry or am doing a long trip with a decent amount of stuff I use my Kriega Tail bag (US20 and US10).
Wait, just noticed this is for commuting. I never commute on my bike because my parking is not at my building and putting on gear is too much of a pain. It's quicker and cheaper just to use public transportation, plus there's nowhere safe to put bikes where I work. No brainer in Milan (and many other locations).
And anther +1 for the back pack if you go down more to burn through before the skin...
Funny tho when I went down I roled and literally not a single scratching on anything (shoes backpack helmet or jacket) but tire the hell out if my jeans and gloves everything else still looks new as can be.
Chewed my $70 gloves like candy and some palm skin tore my pants ass and wallet to sh**.. (Wallet saved me a**) and had no more skin burn than a baseball slide and that was it luckily.
I have two Kreiga Tail Packs 10l and 20l and i have a 20l kreiga Backpack. They have quite honestly the best packs out there. The tail packs look great on sportbikes and the backpacks are designed for motorcycles. No annoying strap whipping at your back etc.. I recommend their kit highly. I use the R20 to ride to work enough room for a pair of sneakers, shirt, and gym change which is all i need.
