Talking Getting married !!

I been dating my gal since 08, and been thinking about getting marry next year or maybe in a few coming years..14' maybe .

Hahah what are your guys thought on marriage in this new age... I want to then.. I think and .. Neh I want to still enjoy some of the things I can do while not being married yet..

Oh geez. Then there are times I just think, it's better to just be couples.

NU WTF man you gotta get the bike outta storage dude, your sitting around thinking about marriage now!! LOL, well my only advice (been married since '06)
1. Move in together
2. Buy house
3. Get married (rec down south) we went to DR Punta Cana loved it!
4. Have kids lol
5. Most important! be sure you're with someone who will let you KEEP the bike ;)

seriously though, only get married if your sure she's "the one" i know it sounds crazy;but when you know you know. Not sure how old you both are but def dont rush into it if your young :P

What are some of the things you like about being "just a couple"?

Why can't you do that/them when you're married?

Nutty's got a fear of commitment

On a serious note, Ive always thought: If you actually have to think about if you should or shouldnt then you probably shouldnt.

Everyone has different opinions obviously. But if you guys get along and everything is good and you guys can compromise with each other why not. If your truly excited about marriage! It didn't work out for me I was 2 months away from marriage and somehow didn't feel right for me.

lol well I am planning on getting married in the summer of 14' but as they said above make sure that you have lived with the girl before you make that kind of step. But most importantly make sure she wont try to change you once you are hitched like make you get rid of the bike and not go out as often stay at home kind of shizz... you need to accept eachother for what you guys are. Those are the traits my girl has she lets me be me and she is who she is thats why I know I wont regret the decission of tieing the knot... If she makes you happy go for it dude lock that puzzy down

between my parents & my gf's parents there's a total of 8 divorces, thats right 8! (her mother really likes wedding cake) so neither of us have any interest in marriage, it's not what it once was & too easy to get out of.

the only marriage I've seen to work is my brothers/sister-in-law's & even they were together 15 years BEFORE getting hitched.

obviously no-one can stop you doing what you want to do & I wish you the best of luck in your decision but I don't think commitment can be measured by a piece of paper & lump of metal.

thats just my opinion before anyone jumps down my throat

i really should not be giving advice on this subject:

dude nothing hurts as badly as being cheated on by a spouse. so be sure what you both want, be sure you will still want it in 25 years time, and have an exit plan which both agree on. its naive to think even the best marriage will last forever. remember the father always get the short end of the stick in a custody battle

Really really great stories and advice guys. Nice to hear from all ya experience.

She's still going to college and wants to finish first before. So I'm thinking maybe ill settle a bit, saved up a bit more and ride to all the places I can while I can.
Hmm..I'll also be looking around $9,000 for the whole wedding. . What's an average ticket for an Americanize wedding ?

Take your time to decide. It's the rest of your life so don't rush into it.

I've had buddies who were in that situation. As soon as the girl finished school, she started thinking she was being held back by the relationship and wasn't using her education, wanting to move on with life.

I'm married and it's not easy. My wife's parents got divorced and there were literally no other men in the family except for a distant grandfather. None of them have a clue about men, but spend the time saying I don't understand women. I don't pretend to, but it's clearly the opposite. It's nearly impossible to deal with their uncompromising behaviour - I could give you endless stories, but you'll just have to take my word for it because I could just as easily invent a story here. Suffice it to say, my opinion is ignored so I spend less and less time with them, which they also complain about despite never cooperating. Obviously keep this in mind if you pay attention to anything said here, but also think about your own situation - the influence of the family can really change after a wedding and even more after kids.

And don't think living together can help that much. For some it will, for others it won't. In many cases, it creates an artificial situation where the couple live in a make-believer world that will result in a marriage so they spend their energy showing how good a partner they can be, but after the wedding, that's no longer necessary. I read research a long time ago while studying Psychology at university and many times in news articles since that couples who live together actually have a higher probability of divorce. Other research says engaged couples who move in together a little early are more likely to stay together, probably because they're already committed. Nowadays, it seems that there's no impact on divorce on average - it depends on the couple. In the end, only the 2 of you can decide.

In the ends, stats don't matter that much. You've gotta do what's best for you both. Lots of couples who live together end it before they even get married and lots of couples who live together after marriage stay together just because they think they should. Not much is said about this most of the time.

Good luck - hope it works out for you!

Ya, true this, first get engaged and nut it out for a couple of years. Makes it all the more real, and if it ever gets called off or the relationship gets too stressed, never progress beyond that.

I have waaaaaaay too many buddies who just rushed into it and are now either kicking themselves or are a divorcee.

Personally, I'm only going to get married when I'm like 50, to some smoking hot 22 year old who will prob only love me for my ridiculous amount of money that I have been able to save thanks to not being a family man; get her to push out a few kids, then retire on a nice beach somewhere before finally hitting on all the hot nurses in my retirement home.

Good luck with it

The world is going to end in 14 days, might as well right? lol

On a serious note, I've seen lots of couples, best friends and life long friends who started hating each other due to their living habits. Try living with each other first and see if everything is good.

+1 if she lets you keep riding

Well like I said its not an American wedding. In my cultural, I pay her mother about ..-6-7k to marry her. + whatever the rings cost,+ cost of food and such..
