it's nice write up. I have to the same thing, but I will run two extra cables from my battery to the opener because this little box is old and i need to chagne batteries every two months. But I also will try to do one extra modification to it so only when I'll turn high beams on I could use opener for the first few seconds

Very nicely done, OP.
For those of us with a small remote, you can just use 3M Velcro: I've used it to stabilize my POS gear indicator that kept coming loose due to the weak glue they used on it. You can easily mount this stuff on the plastic off to the side of the gauges. Takes about 30 seconds to do.

Very cool. Nice write up!
I have a small opener so I used Velcro strips to attach it underneath my windscreen area.
