I was just thinking that and about to post that. ******* cali girls... Mine was looking at rings, they were all 8-10k
^^ Also in Cali, girls have this rule: The ring must be equal to three months of the guy's salary. Shlt, I told her F that . I ain't paying 20k for a ring. LOL. And that's just for the engagement ring, they also want a freakin wedding band, that's like another $4k.
A lady friend of mine also has this rule: For every year they are together, the guy must add $5k to the ring. She wants her bf to drop $35k on the engagement ring. Damn materialistic Cali girls.
I gonna come up with my own rule.
I start at $5k. For every time you mention about a ring, I take $1000 off.

Don't ever move to Cali!! Then she would want to upgrade her ring to fit in. You would be buying the ring twice! ahahaha
haha..
damn i already did that... but then again when i married my wife....
we had a really "poor" wedding.. and her ring was only $300 bucks
cuz thats all i could afford at the time.... :/
so i took her to upgrade her ring last year.... now she has a 4k ring.... :/
and for some reason I want to upgrade it to a more expensive one...
I need help

^^ dude you need more than help, some kind of intervention. If i got away with a $300 ring I would consider myself blessed by the holy devines of the universe. A woman who doesn't complain about a $300 ring is a KEEPER!!!
Dang that is some high maintenance gal. +10k ring is crazy.
I think I will spend about 1k on her ring. My girl ain't that demanding. She just want something bigger than a normal ring and pretty.
If a girl demands how much her ring should cost she's not worth it, if you love someone it shouldn't matter what they put on your finger. My buddy proposed to his girl with a ring he got for .25c out of a candy machine and she still has it on her finger with her wedding band.

Haha, I've got some similar ideas to some things that have been posted but also some completely different ones...
I have a bit of a "list" of things that are important to me before I even consider "marriage":
- date for a decent chunk of time (knowing someone for a few months is NOT enough to consider getting married). Also, if my dog doesn't like you, you're out!
- travel together (if you can't navigate through somewhere unfamiliar to both of you, how can you work out some of the struggles that will come up in your relationship? Not to mention I'm a huge traveler, so dating a home-body won't work for me)
- live together (this doesn't have to mean you're going to get married, but I'd rather live with someone to fully understand all of their quirks before committing the rest of my life to it. Sometimes there are things that just won't mesh over the long-term, and that's ok)
- get engaged to show a long-term commitment. Frankly, I don't really want a "wedding". Being engaged is good enough for me - I don't want the fanfare or white dress, and dear god - NO big rings (they get stuck on things and get bashed up easily! and they're gaudy...).
- having a family is more of a commitment to me than a marriage is... and there will be no man in hell that can take my bike away! :P

How the hell is that "ghey"? (also, not quite sure what "ghey" even means)
I traveled with a guy for a few months in South America. He and I learned a lot about each other just by how we dealt with unfamiliar situations. Some people go cry in a corner, and others just deal with it. You're the one that makes that decision.
