Im new to sports bikes, I just picked up my first bike an 03 cbr600rr. she has about 9.9k on the engine and after this summer i would like to do a 520 conversion and get a new clutch considering the original will have about 12-13k on it after this summer. Would anyone be able to explain the 520 conversion to me along with the -1/+2? and are there any suggestions on clutches/would i have to replace mine.
I just had a -1/+2 520 conversion done last week. Stock is 16 tooth in the front and 43 teeth in the rear, so the kit was a 15/45. Got the kit (both sprockets and a great chain, ek mvxz) from superbikesupply.com for $149. The Speedo DRD to fix the speedo correction was $70 from motomummy.com, which I installed myself. The mechanic got 1 hour labor for the sprockets and chain which came to $65. I sprang for aluminum Gold color sprocket nuts for $27. Correction for speedo was Negative 10.4%.
The bike giddy-upps off the line much better now. I used to be going 46 mph in 6th gear at 4,000 rpm and now with the conversion I am going 41 mph in 6th gear at 4,000 rpm. It kills your gas mileage a little, but trust me, well worth the expense.
Grand total was about 300 simoleans.
Pics attached.
you dont need to replace your cluth after 12-13k miles, thats crazy. and there are to many threads on the 520 topic to get any real response. try the "search" funtion. btw welcom to the forum.

OP, what makes you think you need to replace your clutch so soon?
I have looked at the other posts about it, but I figured someone would be able to help a noob in the sports bike world some extra information. and I wasnt going to replace it, i was asking if I should and if I dont have to, should I? I know with subarus they have a 30k check up and I wasnt sure if sport bikes were or are like subarus.
Don't replace the clutch, if aint broke don't fix it.
520 will increase your response and take off. Top end will be down, but who cares about top end.

Thanks for all the info guys. I'm for sure about to convert it. Since this is my first bike and first season riding a sports bike I'm going to wait till next winter.
i love my 520. huge change from stock. just wish i would'nt have used vortex sprocket.
Which one did you use?

Ugh, don't buy a kit. Cheapy chains and aluminum sprockets. Spend a little extra coin and get steel sprockets and a good no stretch chain. I tore through a "power up kit" in 10k miles, sprocket had 7 broken teeth and the chain was stretched.
I'm -1/+1 and run a 190/55 rear. Bike will top out at 156. Have yet to find a track where a street 600 can actually top higher than that.
All of our kits are 100% custom made. The Driven superlight steel evo-spec chain kit we sell is a steel front/rear sprocket with any high end chain you want. We don't sell those pre-made cheap kits you're talking about. Our kits are 100% custom made from you. You pick your sprockets and then you pick your chain :)
If we wouldn't run it we won't sell it. However, for the track alum rear sprocket is great so they do have their purpose and we do sell them, but they are still 100% custom and you get to pick any chain we offer (highest end chains from ek, rk, and did).
You can then click on the left and sort them by alum rear or steel rear as well.
