Extreme newbie question

So I bought my brand new rr back in 2011. Had my permit but my insurance was extremely high because of my dui/reckless driving. Fast forward a year later, the bike has been sitting unmaintained. And would like to get back into riding. I need some advice on what I should do maintenance wise before I get back out on the road. My insurance has dropped and going to get registration and another permit for right now till I can do the test. Thanks in advance.

So looking back on it maybe you should have gotten insurance quotes BEFORE buying :P
bike sitting for a year, maybe replace gas, check tires (was it on stands?) and of course check battery; may as well change oil-filter as well. Ride Safe man

oh damn you beat me, same as CBR TIME said

Lube your chain, check tyre pressures, check oil and check the petrol, if the bike has not been run the battery will have to be changed or charged. If you have a battery tender connected then you'll be fine. Also if the bike has not been moved for a year at it hasnt been on stands you may have flat spots on the tyres.

Now that your about to ride please dont even have a single beer and ride and wear your gear.

Tack

Sorry to hear.

Good information thus far. Replace the gas, check the tires (pressure and for cracks), lube the chain, possibly replace the battery if it wasnt on a maintenance charge, do an oil change ....hit the road.

dont forget to wheelie the biek the moment you get it out on the road... that is the easiest way to break it in

But in all seriousness be safe man and like they said above dont ahve a single beer before you hop on your bike not worth it to either end up in jail or the hospital...

Everything that is being said is spot on. Maybe invest in an MSF course as well.

Everything is spot on to what I originally though. Only thing I'd throw in is check the brakes. I live in a high humidity area and i had a bike sit for a summer and the rust started building up :/

I'd agree with this direction especially in regards to drink riding, you won't even make it a block drunk on a bike your balance goes out but anyway, personally if you have the funds i'd go and swap the engine oil out, brake fluid, petrol, coolant all at once...start from fresh nothing wrong with fresh fluids safer than sorry, battery will be ok if you get a honda optimate charger like i have, it'll recover even dead batteries you thought were done if you havent had one on the battery get one and leave it on for 24hrs, it can charge the bike fully in like 60minutes but after that it maintains it as well and sorts things out(well on my 5+ edition anyway) it automatically charges at the currect rate etc so it's a good tool to have

then just lub the chain check the tyres and pressures as said and go like the wind bambie! go like the wind!

(yes the oils etc may be fine but im an&l like that...100% or go home for my bike, gets the best only!)

P.S.

- Castrol Dot 4 Brake Fluid.
- Castrol Power1 racing fully sunthetic 10W30 Engine oil.
- Castrol motorcycle engine coolant.

It would be a good idea to clean the injectors. Pop em out spray some carb cleaner through em. When I got my 06 it sat for a few months. The top row of injectors weren't spraying right. Carb cleaner got em spraying again then I ran 90 octane recreational fuel (no ethanol) with seafoam for like 5 tanks.

It improved the gas milage from 30mpg to 38mpg and made it run smooth.
