Me and my buddy are riding on a two lane highway, we are in the left lane, I am on the left (near the double yellow lines) he is on the right, the light in front of us was yellow for an extended period of time coming up to it so we both stop. I look in my rear view and there is a girl in a honda civic behind us, coming on fast, very fast. As we were stopped there was a van approaching in the right lane as well slowing down to stop, but not up to the light yet and had not stopped yet. The girl behind us slams on her brakes, locks up the tires, and some how manages to swerve right and make it in between the extremely small gap between my buddy and the approaching van in the right lane, tires still locked up, and ends up just continuing and makes the right at the light. This incident is difficult to explain and I hope I make sense. We were stopped and the van coming up on the right lane next to us was in like a staggered position when she squeezed in between the two.
The funny thing is, all this happens, my friend was missed by inches, and after it all happens he turns to me and goes "wtf bro? how the heck did you make that much smoke?" He did not even notice what happened. He never saw the civic, and did not know until we were done with our ride when I told him. I guess thats what happens when you ride with headphones blaring in your ears.
My question is do you stop at yellow lights or just blow them? Yeah, its dangerous blowing yellow lights but you never know if the person behind you is on the gas thinking "oh hes on a street bike hes deff gonna run it".
I am so grateful nothing happened to me, especially after just making the first payment on my bike. I could have died today, along with my buddy.

It depends on how long the light's been amber/yellow, if there's somebody close behind me, if I see cars ahead waiting to make a left turn (right if you're in some countries), road conditions (though I should've adjusted for this already theory at that point).
By the way, you could die every day. Glad you didn't today.
I obey stop lights yellow means slow down not drop a gear and hammer it!

glad u and ur buddy are okay and nothing happend.... u never know what others will do on the road... just today i was on my way home in the early AM and pulled to a red light, as soon as i stopped the car to my left, who was stopped, started going through the intersection while the light was still red... well, it didn't work out well for there was a car driving through the green light and got clipped by this SLEEPER driver... if that was a bike, well i wouldn't have wanted to see that... - need to be careful out there and pay attention for not only urself but others as well

Let's show them different and slow for it? Law is, on orange, stop if safe to do so....just apply that.
I had a van blaring on the horn since I had time to go before the other side went green, just completly ignored her, law is on my side. I'm not endangering myself because she's late for work(she was stopping at a point 20m away I see their van everyday it's near my work so I know where to find the twats if they ever push it).
If you think somebody's an idiot start your deceleration beforehand part of advanced driving and hazard perception is, lights been on green for a long time, prepare to stop. Pedestrian walking towards footpath, prepare to stop, car starting to pull out, prepare to stop. I avoid a sh!tload of accidents everyday applying hazard perception.

Unless your girl got the new lingerie and you're on THE way!!
haha that was a joke :) (She won't have much fun if you're a corpse, she'll end up with some twat car driver think about it, keep her away from cagers and stay alive, if you're single sorry sh!t sucks for you!)
No sexism intended if you got a man waiting for you well then change the wording in your head I don't care.
glad your buddy is alright, and its just a "close call", not my buddy was killed!!

I reckon the camera guy got their first....that's why he missed the memo on taking a full shot and only managed that one before he dropped the camera, that or the camera person was snowflake according to maine_CBR so no problem holding back hahahaha
How to de-rail topic: Post pic of one such as the above.
I would have stopped as well. Always watching that 6 though. As for your buddy, if he is going to listen to music that means he has to be just even more attentive to surroundings. Anyhow glad you both made out ok. Stay safe.
And I am grateful nothing happened. I usually always stop / slow down for yellows but I guess from now on I am gonna keep an extra eye out for who's behind me. Just very difficult to decide wether or not to stop when you have no idea what the person behind you is doing, and what their intentions are at that light. I think if theres someone behind me, I am just going to start running them yellows rather than risking it.

Next time (because this time is over and you're safe), next time this happens pull out your mobile (you got a data plan right?) and hit up a forum on the internet. Something like "approaching light, looks yellow, what to do? plz help ASAP this b*tch behind me probably won't stop".
I'm going to assume you just wanted to tell your story and really weren't asking for help on if you should stop at a yellow.
The Following User Says Thank You to LostDog For This Useful Post:
when i stop a lights always leave in gear, watch the mirror, pump the brake so drivers can see my rear light. If i think someone is coming up 2 fast i will try 2 move to curb or if 2-lane into other lane, on drivers door if i have 2. having cager mad at me is better than gettin hit. people dont pay attetion what they are doin so u have to for them.
+1 on pumping brakes. I do that prior to making left turn into my neighborhood as well which usually is a left turn. I also try to start slowing a lot sooner so the car behind me is already conditioned to come to a stop in case I have to wait for oncoming traffic before I turn. Unfortunately there isn't a turning lane.

Glad you and your pal made it through OP. Tell him to skip the music and be more perceptive when riding as brmoore said; riding is no walk in the park. Your individed attention is the least you can contribute when your life is on the line every second.

I usually just run a yellow IF I can see that traffic on both sides have stopped. Some of my friends have asked me to get one of those Bluetooth communication devices so we can keep in contact when we ride together or listen to the radio when I ride alone. I tell them I'd rather hear my engine and the surrounding then be distracted by the radio. I can see how it can be safer in group riding though, just not the radio feature.

Who took the blood out? Just that it doesn't flow anymore. It was a joke BTW.
