Sucks to hear, I passed out early last night and missed your text.
Guess the bonus is you got to drive one, they're nice cars for sure hence why not many are on the used market.

I'm thinking of going back to stock color scheme. I have an '05-06 swingarm coming in the mail that is the stock silver color, and thinking of doing the same with the cover.

I've painted calipers with 99cent flat black aerosol before with no issues, but damn those covers do get hot!
Find a Prius yet Paul?

Paint. I did it about 3 or 4 years ago, and it held up very well. Has some nicks here and there from stones and what not, but after that long and the riding I do (not afraid to take dirt roads or trails), I can't complain.
The trick is to get a high temp paint that has ceramic in it. The ceramic will act like a hardener once cured, and helps to protect from chips. That and really good prep. I've painted parts on show cars from GM when the paint booth was full, and you'd never know the difference.

I did like 4 or 5 coats of primer and the same for the paint, maybe 6 for paint....I just did really light coats and tried to cover up my mistake of not going high enough with the sandpaper
