oil capacity with filter change is 3 liters, 2.6 liters if you didn't change the filter.

599cm3 is the engine displacement.

The manual has a good step-by-step for this (the owners manual that comes with the bike).

The step that some may skip (which is important), is running the bike after the change, letting it sit and re-checking the level.....it will go down a bit.

is the oil capacity the same for 03-06 to 07-08?
I put 3 quarts in my 03 with the oil filter change and was perfect.

The service manual says after oil and filter change.
2.8 liter (3.0 US qt, 2.5 Imp qt)
I would also recommend putting the oil inside the motor and not on it.

Drain the old oil, install a new filter. Put in 3 quarts of the oil of your choice. Start the bike and let it run for a couple minutes. Shut it off and let it set for a bit. Then check the level in the sight glass and you should be fine. Add a bit if needed to bring the level to the full mark.

When checking the oil level, make sure the bike is upright.

Upright but not on a stand; bike should be level. I made that folly when I changed my oil the first time.

Bike on rear stand, oil level perfect as described above. Take it off the stand, too much oil. eff !!!

Just wondering how far are you filling the oil up in the oil gauge? Cause the manual says about 3 quarts of oil. I use that and it gets half way perfectly.

Hey quick comment. I went to my local dealer here in Laurel MD (Heyser Cycles) thinking that I would pick up 3 qts of 100% synthetic Amsoil and either an Amsoil or K&N filter. First up I told them I had an 06 and they all started screaming, I needed 4 quarts because 06's take 3.8 qts. Secondly, they didn't have any Amsoil. The only synthetic they had was Motul. I was going to settle (I had my mind set on the Amsoil) for the Motul, but then I go to get the filter behind the counter, and the only one they have for me is an original Honda filter. Needless to say, I was pissed and decided to wait to get the best I could for my baby. I just got her, and I must take care of her.

Holy shi t. are you serious? Who was the retard telling you this information?!! 2003-2006 motors take 3.1 US Qts, 2007-2008 take 3.0 US Qts both with a new Oil Filter. After a Full engine disassembly 2003-2008 motors take 3.7 US Qts.

If you feel like it, go back, buy your 3 qts of Motul (it's fine) and slap the bitch (that they are) who was telling you otherwise, and maybe drop the bomb that you'll be telling other people who use their shop to beware of overfilled crankcases (which can lead to massive or catastrophic engine failure), and the shop. The following is STRAIGHT from the CBR600RR Bible, Old and New Testaments:

I knew you were right. I appreciate your help. I am just disappointed, that if I do need to get something done not covered on the forum, or that I can not do; I now have to find another service center. Oh well, at least I found out early with no pain donel. RAT BASTARDS tried to set me up for f*cking destruction. Good thing I was not influenced by them and their red cycle shirts. Appox on them! Talked to George at the Amsoil Group. Thanks again Knightslugger. C6r

I know this is probably a stupid question, but do you use synthetic oil or mineral? I'm thinking synthetic, but my manual doesn't say ...

GN4 is mineral based, but is OK oil to about 1500 miles or so. YMMV so it's best to get an oil analysis done on whatever oil you want to stick with. Going to Amsoil from GN4 bumped my OCI (Oil Change Interval) from 1500 to 2500+. I'll be doing another UOA (Used Oil Analysys) at 2500 to see what they say!

Yeah I talked to one of the mechanics of Heyser Cycle at a party back when. He didn't seem to know what he was talking about or at least when it came to sportbikes. I wouldn't recommend letting them work on your bike. But yeah the Honda oil filters for our bikes work just as good as any other filter in my opinion. And if you are gonna get Motul synthetic oil make sure you stay away from their "Double Ester" line. That stuff makes your clutch slip like crazy. Took me awhile to figure out what the culprit was. Switched back to honda oil and everything was ok, for the most part.
