Do I have to be the 1st on the forum to try & integrate/hide a detector on CBR?
So I'm seriously considering trying to integrate a radar detector on my CBR and cutting a spot for the display in the speedo. I saw someone one another forum did it on a yamaha (r1 I think) and it looked good.
Problem: Where should I mount the radar at?
Ideas
1. under the headlights. If they can work behind glass in a car, why cant it work behind plastic underneath the headlight?
2. cut a section between windscreen and top of the instrument panel.
Anyone else have any thoughts/ideas/concerns that might contribute to this plan?

I think you should put it in or integrate the radar into the third eye!!!!!
Put alert in the cluster, maybe use the HISS spot that isn't used in the U.S speedo. Or cut another spot and put a big red led in it.

I don't have a HISS spot on my speedo, but I was thinking the same thing.
Ah yes.. that was sparked this idea the 3rd eye.. plus it would be very close to the instrument panel
I would like to work a my local bike shop to make this a clean install but they are really hesitant to do anything because he doesn't know if it will work and so called risk of screwing it up
I have a passport xi thing that has the blue led, but I bought it off craigslist and it would go off every 3 second in the same pattern until I cleaned it out. Now it works decently, but I still worry that its not working to its full capabilities.
I was thinking the passport redline maybe? Anyone more up to date/knowledgeable on radar detectors want to chime in?

Radio shack has a cool radar detector that has app for the iPhone. Though it would be great to stream alerts through my Sena Bluetooth but I have Android OS.
Might as well put some laser blockers integrated into the frontal design as well.
Oh yeah, put a tiny Bluetooth communicated tiny LED receiver fused into a polarized shield for heads up display in a shatterproof pyrexed glass. And could you also make the sonic portion in feedback with some Bose quality speaker system that can be mounted directly into an Arai Corsair V helmet lining. And while you're at it......

Iv thought about this too, in BC they are legal. Just how to make it clean and factory looking is the problem, you would have to take the unit apart and rewire it.
Also which one is the best and doesn't go off at just anything?
Perhaps a write up would be nice if you go along with it as long as its ok with the mods.
the "high speed" guys swear by the Valentine... they say the "look behind" function is essential.
mount the detector as high as you can...
do you need to keep it concealed?
for warn light get a helmet led.
written up in search finct.
Hmm... my only concern will it still rear radar signal if its mounted behind the 3rd eye or under the headlights. In any case I don't have high expectations for any detectors to pick up radar well from behind... if it does I'd be surprised.
Three main reasons for concealing it are: to prevent theft, so a police officer doesn't see it "IF" I do get pulled over, and incase I'm visit a state that frowns upon detectors (in that case I would just cut it off, via switch or something).

HA! would you like a hot baby alerter add to that also. Laser jammers are not legal in SC unfortunately. I've seen the heads up display for detectors, but they all run on battery or have cords running from the bike to the helmet. I hate having to replace batteries, recharging and all that stuff and don't want a bunch of cords attached to me.

Sent while sitting on the crapper.
I'm sure its going to happen sometime between next week and in the next month.. I just need to raise money for a detector right now and maybe some labor hours if I recruit a shop to help me. I think I can do the wiring part. My soldering sucks though and I've never desoldered anything.

The units can be quite small and I thought of a suction onto my double bubble dark smoke windscreen. There is plenty of room on mine to have it there with no interference with my cluster. What about urs??

Of course.. I could put it on my windscreen. One member on the forum has done it, but that leaves it open to weather and people.

Radar uses the IR's to pick up the signal front/rear, all you have to do is extend the IR's to where you want them to be located and put the display where you want it. Could put the IR's in the taillight and the third eye and put the display in the cluster with a switch to turn it on/off. Could add a piece to the top of the cluster to have a led strip that will get your attention while riding and not have to look down to see the lights.

Im sorry IR meaning? Infrared Receiver? I thought they detect electrical pulses in the air.

I've been thinking about this for awhile and was hoping to be the first to do it. But my plan was to install halos, and while I was in there I was going to dremel out the hole for wires and epoxy the IR part of a cheap radar in there veritcally near the outside of one of the headlights then run the wires up to the rest of it where I'd mount the rest by the speedo. I use a BEL, but I'm not butchering a 150 dollar detector for that project. Good luck man.

As he added, he meant receivers. IR is typically the abbreviation for Infrared which has nothing to do with radar or laser. Radar works on the doppler effect... you know, bike comin at you fast sounds higher pitch, flies by you and the pitch sounds lower as its riding away, etc.
The pulses of rf frequency, usually Ka, Ku, or X band (in the 12GHz area, at least Ku anyway, Ka's a little higher), are shooting at you, as you approach the faster they return than being sent is calculated as your speed. If driving away they can still get how much slower the return pulses are vs the sent out pulse and get your speed. Radar used on police vehicles used to not be able to pick out a single car from a pack (doubt it's gotten better), so the laser came up with the same idea... pulse laser (which is much faster/accurate pulsing, and a tigher beam so they can pinpoint a single car if wanted) takes care of that problem but 'can' be refracted by prisms (rain drops, dense fog, etc) so radar is still widely preferred.
My job in the service was jamming radar and missiles. Always wanted to build a true high power jammer or angle gate walk-off system (tricks the speed to what 'you want' instead of just jamming per se), but too illegal to mess with.

I was actually thinking this up the other day when I was swapping out my third eye bulb. I have 2 detectors and only 1 car so it makes sense. I'm going to pull it apart and start extending leads once I get moved into my new place next week. Look forward to seeing your work!
Tripage I think you should work on a 3rd eye unit too...I'd buy one.

Both of mine have headphone jacks, is that not common? I'm planing to have that be an option but likely just have a couple led's light up on the dash or ws.

Is this something that you would ever consider developing to sell?
I would need a officer to test this with. Have to make sure the reflectors in the third eye wouldn't mess with the receiver. Sounds like something to consider. T
Cool idea but it is the sound of radar detector that gets my attention, not the display. If i turn the volume up on my radio i don't always notice the display bars change.
Either way it's better then nothing...

If you have ever ridden a r6 with a shift light swapped out to "WHITE" you will see the led when it turns on. If you really want to get crazy could probably put a alert on a buzzer to vibrate at a certain level but would have to get into the internals to see if that's possible. T
