I'm getting stationed in San Diego this coming november. Looking for any information that would be helpfull. A place to rent with room for my toys, and who's in the area that i can ride with. Thanks for any info.
I have alot of friends stationed there and they live in murrieta. Really nice cheaper apt.s there. My grandfather has a town home for rent in murrieta. 2 bed 2 bath 2 story with an attached garage and a backyard for 850 a month. U won't find any cheaper than that around this area. Only downer is that it's a 45 minute commute to the base.
There are a bunch of us around here. What base are you on and what's your rate?

give a budget... it will help. You can get any price range here really. its just the cheaper it is the sketchier it is... would help to know a budget to work with.
The sketchier the area the higher calibre weapon you need.

I gotta buddy in La Mesa that pays $1,100 for one bedroom which is two times more expansive then here i think. My mortgage is that much on a 2,500 sq.ft. home.
I would need at least a 2 bedroom so if i could get that for $1,100 - $1,200 in a decent area that would be good i guess.
I know SD is way more expansive but there's a reason why so i'm fine with that.
BTW you can't have more then a 10 rnd magazine right? Looks like i'll be switching to a larger caliber anyway hahaha

I'm also heading to San Diego this fall. I'll be hitting ground late September. Coming from Fort Drum, NY. I am hoping to link up with some of the crowd here and finding the SoCal track day organizations. Also will be watching the thread here for suggestions on the area.

Honestly you can't go wrong here. SD pretty much falls into the pattern of you get what you pay for.
Out by the beach in pacific beach and ocean beach or cheap areas and near the beach and local bars. El cajon and Santee are good areas along with la Mesa. Typically the further north the more expensive.

Is the University Heights and North Park area considered nice and civil? There were some single family homes for sale/rent that I was looking at but don't know about the quality of the area. For traffic considerations, I will be commuting to the anti-sub complex by the airport... ironic for an Army officer.

I live in imperial beach. I share a place and pay $800 a month. I think it a little pricey since all I get is a room and a bath. My bike gets to park in the garage but my new car has to sit on the street.

Ouch, that sounds a little too much. It's nice to have a garage though

I origanally lived up in that area of NY. Nice place that people never think about, if you like rural settings.
My budget would be right around the 1200-1500 range. Definitely want a garage!! May move my project 67 chevelle down if i have a place for it. What are good sites to start researching the area for available rentals?

haha cold blooded trying to send some new to the area military guys over to Hillcrest.
If you dont mind commuting down the 15 a little bit look at Apartments around Miramar lots of places where alot of military live. Check out Escondido and then Temecula and Murrieta a little more north would be the tops of where you would want to commute from. Temecula is an awesome area unless you are really set on staying near the beach . If you are set on living coastal cruise up the 5 a bit out of SD to Oceanside another big military area with some good housing options. But there are alot of ghetto spots in Oceanside so be on the lookout if you choose that route. You will get SD BAH which is enough to get you a place that will have what you want. Garages are the hot commodities in alot of the coast areas and in apartments of course. Any questions PM me I lived down all around that area for a while and have a lot of buddies still down there.
Yes.. thanks for the help. Anything else you think of don't hesitate to post. Look forward to meeting up with some of you out there. Should have a lot of free time being on shore duty! Looking forward to those canyons i hear so much about!!!
