Watching the news last night, they had a report about a high speed chase. Cops trying to catch a motorcyclist. Ended like most with the guy crashing.
So the question is. If you were out on a nice summer day on some long back roads with no traffic and you open it up to the point to where you are doing say 100 + mph (Not that you ever would. But, if you were..) And you catch out of the corner of you eye a cop hiding out. Next thing, you look in your mirror and see the lights. Now Your thinking I'm screwed. I'm going to jail if I get pulled.
You are familiar with the roads up ahead.
So do you STOP and lose your license or do you RUN ???
All this is Hypothetical of course, because we don't speed.
But, if this happened, what would you do.. ?

I would most likely pull over knowing full well I'm in the wrong.
My thoughts... If I pull over, I either take my lumps or officer may give leniency for stopping. B... if I run?.. 95% of the time, it's gonna end bad. (wreck/jail).
I like the idea of pulling over if your just cruising along not really doing anything. But if your going 100+ most likely the cop isnt going to be to nice and by time he pulls out and gets up to speed you could have already made it to another road to turn off on. This way your not continuing doing retarded speeds and if you were going that fast he probably thought you just kept going unless he seen you make the turn. Just my thoughts
Somthing along those lines happened eariler in the year for me. I wasn't going over 100, but I was damn close and I admittedly I was doing this on an unfamiliar road so that may play into the decission. Well, I saw the trap a bit late immediately thought that they had caught me without being pulled over yet or even seeing the car that would be pulling me over- an officier was on the side with a speed gun and radioing ahead. So I started slowing down as I passed him and then let the car know I was pulling over when I passed it as well. Well, cooperating and being honest along with wearing more gear than they were used to seeing locals ride with seemed to make the officer appreciative and i got a few mph knocked off of the ticket. So I'm certain I made the right choice by pulling over. I can only see bad things happeneing if I went into GTA / NFS mode and tried to out run them.
I shouldn't be sharing this because I know some dumb squid will read it and take it to heart, but...
1. I encourage you to look at your local LE, sheriff, and all nearby department's policies for pursuing motorcycles. Most have a strictly no pursuit policy unless they know you've committed a forcible felony. So, if you're on a bike, and you blow passed a cop and run, unless he knows for a fact you just committed a rape or a robbery, he must terminate the pursuit. Florida Highway Patrol has this policy, FYI.
2. Assuming an agency does allow motorcycle pursuits for speeding. If you're doing 130 MPH, you're travelling at 190 feet per second. That means even if a cop guns you for speeding at 200 yards away, you've already passed him in 3 seconds. During those 3 seconds, he has to put the gun down, put the car in drive, and safely pull out into traffic. Then he has to take his slow ass Crown Vic and accelerate up to 150 MPH just to have a chance catch up to you. Which is damn near impossible since most CVPI's barely hit 130. Hell, even if it's a Vette, he still doesn't have a chance.
Assume he is in a 13 second car, you're doing 130 MPH, and he guns you at 200 yards away. You will have 1/2 a mile on him by the time he even matches your speed. Now he's gotta go FASTER than 130 to catch up to you, and all this is assuming that once you see him you don't gun it to 150-160.
3. Most police officers wouldn't even attempt to catch a biker going that fast. Its looked at it like you'll kill yourself eventually, no need for me to be involved in the paperwork. They'll simply flash their lights as you haul ass by them in an attempt to "scare you" into slowing down. Or if they do pull out, they'll just hope you're an honest biker and will stop for them.
4. Now, with all that being said - cops don't need to pursue you to catch you. You can't outrun a Motorola and if you get a big agency with little going on, a deputy on the radio saying "There's a red bike clocked at 130 MPH going down Route XXXX, heads up" and you had better be real lucky that there's not someone waiting for you down the road after you've slowed up.
Edit: To answer the question - if I was very familiar with the road, knowing what I posted above, if there was an exit very very close (but without being in eye sight of the officer) I'd probably slow down and get off there. But I'd probably do that in a car too. "Oh sorry officer, I knew I was speeding but I didnt know you were behind me until I got off at this exit". That won't get you out of the ass chewing and court appearance, but you won't get arrested.
As far as actually running? Never.

I think they're more worried about hurting bystanders, not that what you've said isn't true.
When i first got my bike i was riding with someone who had a bike for a while. We pulled off a side road on to a main one and a state trooper followed us for a few miles not speeding or anything pulled us over yelled over the mic for us to take our helmets off. So we did. He got out came up to us and looked at the person i was with.and said we know it was you who ran from us the other night. Your lucky i couldnt catch you because i would have ran your *** over. I had just started riding and was confused that a police officer would so blaintly tell someone something like this. Although i know not all cops are like this alot are.
Pull over before they even have a chance to pull out.. This makes police happy for some reason
maybe, but i got my speeding ticket for going 9mph over the limit. when i met the cop he hit the blues, i stopped. by the time he got turned around in the road, pulled up behind me i had already stopped, shut the bike off, taken my helmet off and hung it on the mirror. could i of run, yes...i was going 44mph in a 35. but it never once went through my head
EDIT: 150$ fine that i payed 2 days later. the cop still waves at me when he sees me, as do all the local cops in the area

I'd pull over. I've been over 100mph without even realizing it on the expressway before though. Generally, if I'm going over the speed limit, I'll have a reason why other than I want to go fast. Generally it's to get out of the way of some idiot that doesn't realize how awful his or her driving is. I wouldn't mind explaining to an officer in detail about why me and many other motorcyclists have to get out of certain situations quickly, possibly to avoid getting killed or injured. If he doesn't care, It doesn't matter. I'd rather get a ticket than get hit by an idiot driver. If you're constantly riding like an idiot on the street, you deserve to get ticketed however.

I will be the first to say, that every time I take the bike out it will be over 100. (I live in Texas so everything is big open roads for the most part)
I think the main thing to say is, if the cop has you dead to right (pulled up behind me at a light, or maybe when I am getting gas, or maybe even on a road trip bc where can you run?)
If I ride up on a cop and I am doing 90 or so, I am going to drop a gear and hit it so the cop will hopefully not even attempt. As said before a lot of departments have a no chase policy, but as we know that does not mean they will still not chase you.
Best way to put is, that yes most times you can get away. You just have to make that choice at the time if you are able to. Here in Dallas you it takes 15 min for the helicopter to get in the air and be anywhere in the Dallas/Forth worth metroplex.
So if you do run, always think about the air and the radio. That means only run if you can get away really fast and quick, the longer you run the more likely you will be caught.
I paid a $517 fine and got points for 99mph in a 65mph this morning...
I choose not to fight it in court and just plead no contest in hopes of not getting points or too big of a fine, see where that got me.

Ouch! so what happened? did you see him parked? or did he just end up behind you etc?

Was getting on the highway really fast onto a really nice turning on ramp. I looked real fast before i got on but i didn't see him in the unmarked chevy malibu going down the highway and when i got on next thing i know i see flashing lights and i look down im doing 90 when i started to slow down, i wasn't even on the highway for 10seconds before he was on me.
so basically i got really unlucky because we met up right when i got on he was already driving down the highway and he was right on my ass.
Haha, I actually just got my license back from a 7 day suspension. I got clocked doing 113km/hr in a 70km/hr zone. I don't know how it is in the States, but here in Nova Scotia you get an automatic suspension even on your first offense. This was my first speeding ticket in all of my 10 years of driving :(
