Relocating stock rectifier question

Okay so I am now on my 4th rectifier in 2 years. It's starting to get pricey to go on long rides where the bike gets 230+.

So I was wondering has anyone come up with a relocation spot for the stock rectifier so you don't have to deal with the heat from the headers?

Moving it, might want to add a fan, don't know if it could be added in the current position.

As long as you are moving those temps shouldnt be enough to kill a RR on a regular basis. You may want to check your stator.

OH! also, do you have HID's on the bike and LED tails? those things that drop current that the RR will have to bleed off will increase its temps.

you could try getting slightly higher wattage headlight bulbs or something to offset it.

Yes I have 35w hids and led tail. I have 03 with the 05 heat shield

so you basically cut in half your power consumption with the LED's and HID's

a R/R works with your electrical system by turning ac power into dc and killing off excess power thats made by the stator in the form of heat.

you may want to try adding load to the system so the R/R dont have to work as hard.

What would you recommend me adding/changing out to get the right amount of load?

I would check your stator as well. After moving the rect you should be fine. T

As trippage said, it may be more prudent to make cartain your stator is up to snuff. Usually when R/R's fail they bite the dust based on other factors like poor wiring, bad connections, bad stator output, weak batteries, lack of or too much electrical load, heat.

Has your bike ever been down? espically on the stator side? Ive had bikes that got a few scratches on the stator cover that deformed the rotor enough to cause slight contact between it and the stator that would kill a stator or R/R fairly quickly.

On previous bikes i added a small, permanantly mounted power inverter. one of those cigarette ligther ones. Its come in handy multiple times for charging stuff while on the road. If you do, make sure you add it to a switched power relayed source, so it wont kill your battery when sitting up.

Im not 100%, but im pretty positive all the RR's use a mofset based R/R
