Hey guys I was looking for some swingarm spools and spools for the front forks,
I'm really liking the driven spools, how did you all like em? How many mm did you get ?motomummy has 6mm 8mm and 10mm. What are the benefits of a bigger spool?
Can these be used for the forks and the swing arm? Protection would be nice but the sole purpose is for bike stands (which I'm still shopping around for)
spools are only for your rear swing arm, what year do you have, 07+ is 8mm. Goes without saying, but you will need a rear spooled stand. Front is either front forklift or Headlift. If you dont plan on working on your front forks just go with the forklift stand (lifts bike up from under front forks)
Pitbull makes top quality stands, if you have the cast id go w those, however you can get cheaper stands just do a search on here or a google search. http://www.pit-bull.com/motorcycle-stands.shtml

Sweet thanks, I have a xb12r with front spools/caps so I was thrown off guard
I know I'll grab both front and rear for sure, but not planning on fork work, only rotors and brake pads so I'll probably just go with the forklift stands.
I've seen threads up for the stands, just never checked them out yet, been busying looking at all the builds everyone is doing including yours. Thanks you

Yea protection is pretty non existent I found out offer I dropped my bike.. Spools held up great.. But what ever the swing arm is made of (thinking aluminum) as soon as it hit the pavement the spool ripped right out of the swing arm.. Stripped the threads in the swing arm.. So don't look much towards that..
And for stands look into pitbull I got a rear stand on CL the GT or what ever (both spool/frame lifts option for like $50 like new.. Bad to drive about an hour away but worth it. I wanted it to be able to lift my bike and maybe friends who don't have spools but now I'm glad I got that stand with the option for both because now I only have one spool on my dam bike.
Next bike i will likely invest in Pitbull stands, and yea the rear spooled/pad combo is just for that; in the event you drop the bike and break a spool you can still lift the bike
I go with big spools. I have the woodcraft one. They're about ... Hmm and 1 1/4 plastic puck in size. Great for protection and my bike stand also works great along with it
spools are spools really, some are made from derlin or ana alum some hard plastic, some small some big etc, better swing arm protection imo is rear axle sliders, i actually need those and front ones as well. So that being said get the spools you like the best, there all about the same price

same thing happened on my 1000. SUCKS! got the same pitbull stand too. its the shizzle
Spools suck for protection. Look at the tiny bolt they are attached to. We have seen so many go down and snap them off. Better to have smaller spools like the Driven ones so they don't snag and rip out of the swingarm or snap off. They offer nothing for protection and are just to raise your bike. Best to have them a size to where they don't snag and rip off or break off we have learned.
Driven we like the best as they get the job done, priced well, look great, and give you the option of colors. Don't over think it though as they are just spool. As long as they are the smaller ones you're fine in our opinion.
On our forum we have a thread that shows you the differences in sizes.
^ +1 same can be said for frame sliders (ive heard/read stories of bikes flipping etc), was one of the reasons i opted for the lower profile woodcrafts; however if your bike is simply tipped over obvioulsy a longer frame slider would be more beneficial.

Yea I've heard those horror stories and have no cut longer sliders and when I 12 o'clocked my bike and I fell on its side I swore it was flipping but its hard to tell bein I was going 50 to 0 real quick and flipping my self..
But the bike shows the slider held up for most of the slide and kept it on one side and actually saved 90% of the fairings and bike it self was actually really suprised at how they preformed. Just a small scuff on the tail and levers is all.
Ill be picking the axle and fork sliders from motovation soon hopefully
Axle Sliders
So do the motivation axle sliders go in a different slot than the spools? I checked out the motivation sliders and they are sick but I wasn't sure if you still need spools. I'm trying not to think too hard about this but I just cant decide
I don't like the look of the derlins but they wont show scratches and wear like the anodized spools. But I do need to stick with 8mm? or can I go to 6mm so that I don't have to be worried about the possibly messing up the swingarm in case someone pulls another left turn without looking?
